Jujutsu Kaisen is at its end after 270 long chapters, with a host of characters introduced thanks to the creative mind of Gege Akutami. Besting Kenjaku and Ryomen Sukuna was not an easy task, but Team Jujutsu High managed to come out on top and saved the world from a potentially horrible fate.
However, even so, the series' ending has attracted criticism from Attack on Titan fans. Following the release of the chapter 271 spoilers, they seem to be taking a dig at Akutami for emulating Hajime Isayama's idea for the ending of his series—a circular ending in which events lead to a full circle in the final chapter.
Attack on Titan fandom reprove Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami for series' "circular" conclusion
Jujutsu Kaisen ended on sort of an abrupt note. Gege Akutami announced that the manga would end in 5 chapters around the time of the release of chapter 264/245. This was quite surprising for many, as a number of questions needed answering, and there were many plot points that just did not add up. Moreover, they were curious to see how the author would wrap things up in 5 chapters.
However, true to their word, the manga has reached its conclusion and looks to have some full circle—Kenjaku and Sukuna have been defeated with the latter's final finger placed in a box at the same location it originally was at the beginning of the story. This time, however, instead of Megumi Fushiguro on a mission alone, it is the trio of Megumi, Yuji Itadori, and Nobara Kugisaki. Hence, things came full circle.
This is where Attack on Titan fans stepped in to take a dig at Akutami, claiming that he "thought he could do the same" as Isayama. Attack on Titan also ended on a note few expected, with Eren's death and Mikasa liberating Ymir, causing every Titan body to turn to dust, and those transformed became humans again. Hence, things reset to how they were before Titans, albeit with around 80% of the world destroyed in the process.
Fans react to Akutami's "circular" ending of Jujutsu Kaisen
Attack on Titan lovers were quick to draw parallels and take a dig at Akutami once the final chapter's spoilers were released. They took to social media to voice their opinions on the similarity of the two and call out Akutami for his use of a nearly identical concept to draw his series to a close.
"Jujutsu Kaisen fans really thought gege could come close to isayama," a user commented.
Fans of Isayama's series viewed the author as one of the greatest of all time. Naturally, with the word of Akutami's "circular ending" surfacing, they did not believe that Akutami was of a similar caliber to Isayama. While there may be some truth to that, it cannot be argued that Akutami too has created a masterpiece that will live on for quite a long time.
"AOT ending far superior to this and I hate AOT ending but at least that ending was well written," a fan wrote.
Another section of Attack on Titan fans felt that the Titan-centric manga's ending was superior to Jujutsu Kaisen's. There is one common fact that can be agreed upon here: a considerable part of both fandoms aren't particularly pleased with the way their favorite series ended. But then again, that is a matter of perspective, and opinions will definitely vary from person to person.
"honestly it would make sm sense for jjk to be a circular storytelling but the execution in the end felt extremely rushed imo," an X user wrote.
Some agreed with what Akutami seemingly did in choosing to end things through a full circle. They felt it made sense to return Sukuna's final finger to its original location, considering that the Demon King cannot reincarnate through it and now it will only act as a beacon to attract Curses. However, as agreed upon by many, the ending was rushed with the sudden announcement to conclude the series.
"Nah. This is the opposite of circular. This shows how good things are to have a sukuna finger out in the open and unsealed. Sure there are going to be new issues but they'll be easily handled," a fan opined.
Interestingly, one fan called it the opposite of a circular ending. Rather, it was better to have Sukuna's final finger back at its original location, this time not as dangerous as it used to be. Also, with the way Yuji and the other sorcerers evolved, any potential issues that might arise can be easily handled by them.
