Demon Slayer season 4 has concluded and fans are anxiously waiting for the Infinity Castle trilogy of films. In the meantime, fans decided to revisit some of the older episodes and break them down into elements that made the series a hit.
One such episode was the final meeting involving Kibutsuji Muzan and Kagaya Ubuyashiki. This was one of the most important plot points in the story because the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps sacrificed his life. Not only did it mark the beginning of an all-out war, it also revealed his true nature in his dying moments.
The manner in which Koyoharu Gotouge wrote the final meeting has been claimed perfect by fans. The attention to detail in the interaction involving Kagaya, Amane, and Muzan gave fans a glimpse of Gotouge’s genius.
Demon Slayer season 4: Subtle details in the Ubuyashiki-Muzan meeting that made the scene realistic
There were plenty of elements in that final meeting that showed Gotouge’s writing prowess. Muzan pacing himself slowly towards Kagaya Ubuyashiki suddenly brought in massive amounts of tension. Dragging out that scene only improved the suspense. However, there was one subtle detail that made the scene quite realistic and added another layer to the emotional impact that was left behind by his family’s sacrifice.
This detail was the presence of his two children who were playing in a corner. At first, one might perceive it as an additional B-roll that was added to the scene. However, those few seconds had a positive impact on the scene. Seeing Muzan in the presence of the leader and his children suddenly created a sense of impending doom. It amplified the fear that the audience felt in the Demon King’s presence.
However, the addition of children made the scene even more realistic because the children are at an age where they pick up on clues and understand what’s happening around them. Therefore, it was quite possible that they knew who Muzan was, or understood what the presence of a demon felt like. Ubuyashiki or Amane probably asked their children to play in a corner for two reasons.
The first reason is that Muzan would look at children playing and would not suspect the possibility of it being a trap. While he had his doubts, seeing Ubuyashiki’s children playing in the corner would have put him at ease. This is because no normal human being would sacrifice the lives of their children. The second reason is that the sheer act of playing would have helped children calm their nerves.
These two points elevated the scene. Koyoharu Gotouge paid attention to every detail to make sure the scene was as realistic as possible. What this does is that fans can feel the terror and suspense that permeates the air while watching the episode. The smallest elements can have a cascading effect, and the finale of Demon Slayer season 4 is proof of that.
