Hollow Purple's next target in Jujutsu Kaisen isn't Sukuna himself, but Malevolent Shrine, and it makes perfect sense

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 262-2, the rules around cursed techniques were further complicated with Inumaki's remote use of cursed speech. Meanwhile, Yuta's struggle to harness Gojo's power highlighted his inability to fight effectively in Gojo's body.

As the chapter concluded, fans speculated whether Yuta's upcoming attack could defeat Sukuna, but concerns arose over the potential misfiring of Yuta's hollow purple. Despite the uncertainty, many fans anticipate this turn of events might pave the way for Yuji's return to confront Sukuna once more, shaping the narrative towards an eagerly awaited showdown.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 262-2 continued the fight between Yuta and Sukuna, raising tension by including Sukuna's inner thoughts about Gojo's fighting style and decisions. Throughout the entire fight, Sukuna made many observations, including how Yuta is nowhere near Gojo's level despite possessing the overpowered Infinity Technique and Six Eyes.

Yuta stumbled and misjudged the distance from Sukuna throughout the battle. Midway through the chapter, Yuta began charging a hollow purple in front of Sukuna, who wondered why Yuta would do so right in front of him. Sukuna even commented on why Yuta didn't understand Gojo's choices, which led him to detonate a hollow purple by colliding Red and Blue separately.

Chapter 262-2 ended with Yuta somehow using a recorder with Inumaki's recorded voice to freeze Sukuna in his tracks while Yuta prepared the hollow purple. However, several fans noticed that the two orbs symbolizing the merger of Red with Blue to create Hollow Purple weren't merging during Yuta's charge-up.

While some fans initially suggested it might be an oversight from Gege, this idea was soon debunked, as every other instance of hollow purple usage shows the orbs merging.

Alongside Yuta's unfamiliarity with Gojo's techniques and resulting sloppiness in his fighting, many fans speculate that Yuta's hollow purple might misfire. It's guaranteed that Yuta's attack will not eradicate Sukuna, as the latter's character currently only has a direct and long-term conflict with Yuji Itadori, thematically suggesting that only Yuji should bring an end to Sukuna.

The ongoing sorcerer versus Sukuna fights have consistently followed a pattern of weakening Sukuna to some degree.

Therefore, it's very possible that Yuta's hollow purple might completely misfire. However, Yuta may have anticipated this and taken measures so that his hollow purple still holds some value. So far, Sukuna's domain expansion has been the greatest challenge for the sorcerers, so Yuta's hollow purple might be targeting the shrine.

Yuta's intention may be to neutralize Sukuna's domain and damage him with the Infinite Void, even for just a few seconds. This decision also aligns with the fact that Yuji has weakened the connection between Sukuna and Megumi, potentially preventing Sukuna from transferring all of the brain damage to Megumi.

Yuta targeting Sukuna's shrine might weaken the latter enough for Yuji and Todo to finish the job. This could also be setting up the anticipated domain clash between Yuji and Sukuna that fans have predicted for months.

Chapter 263, set to release on July 14, 2024, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated chapters in recent times. Although the paneling of chapter 262-2 implied that Inumaki's cursed technique worked, it remains possible for Sukuna to break free, especially considering his frequent use of binding vows.
