What was Horikoshi's timeskip mistake in My Hero Academia?
As revealed by My Hero Academia manga leaker on X @RukasuMHA, manga creator Kohei Horikoshi admitted to messing up youth character Kota Izumi's age in the time skip.
As fans may recall, the character was only six years old before the time skip. However, after the eight-year time skip, he was shown as Deku's student at U.A. High School.
Considering the eight-year time skip, Izumi should have been 14 years old in the final manga chapter. This meant that he could not have been a student at U.A. High School.
Fans from different regions of the world could be confused as to why Horikoshi was admitting to having messed up. However, high school students in Japan tend to be between 15 and 18 years old. Therefore, to readers there, a 14-year-old being admitted to U.A. High School was peculiar.
How fans reacted to Horikoshi's comment
Most fans did not mind the mistake made by Kohei Horikoshi as it only made Kota look smart. As per their headcanon, it was never a mistake. Kota was just so smart that he skipped a few grades and was admitted to high school earlier than he should have been.
"He just skipped a few grades he’ll be fine," one fan said.
"Isn’t it an 8 year time skip? 6 + 8= 14…he certainly could be in high school if it’s his first year," another fan added.
"Is that changed in chap 430 then?," another fan asked.
"I was so confused by that like wtf he and Eri is same age but she in middle school but he in high school?" a fan asked.
As for other fans, they were concerned about how this could change the manga's final chapter. Would Kota be removed from the chapter or will the time skip be increased to nine years?
Meanwhile, another fan admitted that they were confused about this when they first read the final chapter. Kota and Eri were the same age. Hence, Kota being in high school and Eri being in middle school after the time skip didn't make sense to them.
