My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen mangas mark end within the same few weeks
My Hero Academia concluded its story on August 5, 2024, with the release of chapter 430. Although the ending divided the entire fandom, many fans also took to social media to express concerns about unresolved plotlines, such as the quirk singularity theory and others that were simply forgotten.
However, the recent announcement of Jujutsu Kaisen concluding within the next five chapters has now agitated the fandom even more, given the numerous plotlines that Gege Akutami has yet to address.
Horikoshi and Gege Akutami have revealed their friendship through various author comments in their manga. With Gege now finishing his manga abruptly just weeks after My Hero Academia's end, fans are speculating about how much influence Horikoshi may have had on Gege.
Fan reactions to the situation
Many fans have speculated that Gege's rather unforeseen announcement might have been a result of Horikoshi ending the My Hero Academia manga. A few others have mentioned that Gege might have deliberately wanted to end the Jujutsu Kaisen manga within a month of Horikoshi's series to create chaos within Jump magazines, as two of their most successful series would be ending within the same time frame.
Meanwhile, some have simply said that Gege couldn't handle being in a magazine without Horikoshi.
"Horikoshi announced he was ending MHA and Gege yelled with all his might “DON’T LEAVE MEEEEEEEE"," one fan said.
"Gege and Horikoshi wrapping up within a month of each other knowing they bout to leave Jump scrambling," another fan wrote.
"Gege couldn't stand being in the magazine without Hori for more than two months," one fan wrote.
Netizens have expressed that the situation is only leading toward a very rushed ending for Jujutsu Kaisen, similar to what happened in Horikoshi's manga.
Several other internet users have also started pondering the possibility that both Horikoshi and Gege might start working on a new project together after Gege ends Jujutsu Kaisen. They have also discussed how it might be Jujutsu Kaisen's "big reveal" that is supposed to come out this week.
"Horikoshi and gege competing in who can make the most rushed manga ending competition," another fan said.
"Horikoshi and gege really just two besties who said “i’ll put my two weeks in if you do” and i think that’s beautiful," a fan wrote.
"Gege and Horikoshi might just start writing My Jujutsu Academia, especially since we have a JJK announcement still remaining," one fan said.
Horikoshi's series ended with a total of 430 chapters and several movies. Although many fans expected the announcement of a sequel, nothing has been revealed so far. Jujutsu Kaisen will conclude with chapter 271, and fans currently have no idea about the direction it will take.
