There are two Hunter x Hunter movies. The first movie, titled "Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge," was released in Japan in 2013, while the second movie, titled "Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission," was released in 2019. Both movies feature original storylines that are not part of the main manga or anime series.

Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rouge is the first movie adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi's popular manga and anime series, Hunter x Hunter. The film was released on January 12th, 2013, and a Japanese Blu-ray/DVD version became available on July 24th, 2013.

The movie contains a flashback of Kurapika's childhood that is considered canon, adapted from special chapters called "Kurapika's Memories Part One and Two," written by Togashi but ultimately excluded from the main story. However, the main plot of the movie itself is filler and not part of the original storyline.

Synopsis

In the Hunter x Hunter series, Kurapika seeks revenge against the notorious Phantom Troupe, who brutally murdered his clan for their unique and coveted scarlet eyes, considered one of the world's greatest treasures. Kurapika's own eyes turn scarlet when he experiences strong emotions, making him a prime target for the Troupe.

When his own eyes are stolen by an unknown party, Kurapika is aided by his friends Gon, Killua, and Leorio, who help him regain his sight and face off against the Troupe. However, the group must also confront the true identity of the Troupe member with the No. 4 spider tattoo, which holds the key to the Troupe's secrets.

Hunter × Hunter: The Last Mission is the second movie adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter × Hunter. It was directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi and written by Nobuaki Kishima. The movie premiered in Japanese theaters on December 27th, 2013. The DVD and Blu-ray versions were released on July 23rd, 2014.

The events of the movie take place after the Greed Island arc and before the Chimera Ant arc, specifically during the time when Gon and Killua are exploring with Kite. While it is unclear whether the movie is canon or not, there has been no official statement confirming its status.

Synopsis

The story follows a group of powerful Hunters called "Shadow" who were once members of the Hunter Association but were discriminated against and massacred. Seeking revenge, they plan to attack and massacre all Hunters. During the attack, Killua is injured, and Kurapika is almost killed.

Gon decides to take the Shadow's path to find the strength necessary to save his friends. As the story progresses, the secrets and crimes of the Hunter Association, particularly those of Chairman Netero, are revealed, and Gon must confront the consequences of their actions. The movie explores themes of revenge, forgiveness, and the true meaning of strength.
