Jujutsu Kaisen has wowed fans with its range of powerful abilities possessed by both heroes and villains. From offensive attacks that manipulate gravity and space itself to defense measures that are seemingly unshakeable and impervious, this series has it all.

Among its host of abilities is the category of Maximum Techniques. These have come in two forms - Maximum Output Techniques and Maximum: Uzumaki. Understandably, this may have created confusion as to the difference between the two. Here's everything you need to know.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The difference between Maximum Output Techniques and Maximum: Uzumaki

Maximum Output Techniques

To begin with, Maximum Techniques or Maximum Output Techniques are extensions of a Cursed Technique (CT) at its most powerful state. These are the second strongest aspects of a sorcerer's weapons behind their Domain Expansion. They utilize the destructive power of a technique to its maximum potential, condensing the CT's power into a powerful offensive blast.

So far, 3 Maximum Output Techniques have been seen, with one of them, Maximum: Uzumaki, to be discussed later. The other two are Maximum: Meteor and Maximum: Winged King. Both techniques originate from the users' CTs, Disaster Flames and Rot, respectively, and showcase each's maximum destructive power.

Moving on, Suguru Geto's and now Kenjaku's Maximum: Uzumaki is more of an intriguing and truly fearsome technique. To put it simply, it combines Cursed Spirits, which the Curse Manipulator has collected into a swirling mass. When unleashed, it darts at the target and incinerates nearly anything through a powerful attack of super condensed Cursed Energy.

As Kenjaku explains, the true power of Uzumaki is unleashed when using Semi-Grade 1 or higher Cursed Spirits. This allows the user to extract their Innate Technique for use later without needing to summon them at all.

The difference between Maximum Output Techniques and Maximum: Uzumaki is small. Maximum Output Techniques push the sorcerer's limits on how powerful and condensed their CT's destructive power can be.

As seen with Jogo's Meteor, his Disaster Flames conjure up a mass of fire to suck everything into itself, thereby growing in size and strength as it grows. So, through this, it is pushing the limits of his Disaster Flames to the point of extreme destruction.

On the flip side, Maximum: Uzumaki is a technique that combines the user's collected Curses into a single mass. The more Curses added, the more powerful the technique. Suguru Geto combined 4,461 Cursed Spirits to create his Uzumaki. Kenjaku's version was similar, but the Curses he added were boosted by Mahito.

Final Thoughts

Jujutsu Kaisen truly has presented fans with some mind-boggling techniques and abilities. Its host of characters is unique, and each one possesses a distinct that is equally impressive - be it Gojo Satoru's Limitless, Yuki Tsukumo's Star Rage, or Ryomen Sukuna's Shrine and Slashing Techniques.

In this case, the Maximum: Uzumaki can be understood as falling under the umbrella of Maximum Output Techniques. However, subtle differences in detail in the former make it different from a typical Maximum Output Technique.
