Kohei Horikoshi's magnum opus, the My Hero Academia manga, concluded earlier this month on August 5, 2024. Following the conclusion of the Final War arc, the manga received an epilogue of 7 chapters, where Horikoshi managed to tie up and provide satisfying conclusions to the majority of the series' plotlines and character arcs.
For the longest time, fans had been coming up with their own versions of the My Hero Academia ending, which raised expectations for the series finale to an all-time high. Although the actual ending may not have satisfied everyone, it was still an overall fitting end for such a popular and impactful series. With that in mind, let us take a closer look at how the My Hero Academia manga concluded and what the future had in store for Deku and his friends.
Exploring the conclusion of the My Hero Academia manga and Deku's fate post time-skip
Chapter 430 marked the definitive conclusion of Kohei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia manga. It started off with Izuku Midoriya, aka Deku, reflecting on his years as a student at U.A. High and how his "story" came to an end alongside the embers of his One For All Quirk. It also featured an 8-year time-skip, where it was revealed that Deku had taken on the profession of a teacher at U.A. High.
The chapter also provided readers with a glimpse at an upcoming generation of aspiring heroes, similar to how Deku and Katsuki Bakugo started off at the beginning of the series. It showcased a classroom full of middle school students discussing which course they are going to undertake at U.A. High.
Also mirroring Deku and Bakugo's character arcs at the beginning of the series, a student named Dai was seen getting bullied by his classmates due to his dream of becoming a hero despite possessing a seemingly ineffective Quirk.
Chapter 430 of the My Hero Academia manga then focused on the individual lives and accomplishments of Deku's former classmates, who apparently went on to become great heroes in the current hero society. Mezo Shoji, aka the Pro Hero Tentacole, received worldwide renown for his efforts in resolving prejudice-based incidents in a peaceful way in smaller cities.
On the other hand, Ingenium (Tenya Iida), Froppy (Tsuyu Asui), Creati (Momo Yaoyorozu), and Uravity (Ochako Uraraka) were visiting grade schools all across the country of Japan. Apparently, the villain incidence rate had decreased, and the range of operations of the heroes was broadening.
Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo, on the other hand, were among the top-ranked heroes. However, the latter's popularity was seemingly about to drop due to his violent and rude behavior, whereas the former was said to shoot ahead in the rankings and catch up to Mirio Togata, aka Lemillion, who was said to be the top-ranked hero. Additionally, Shoto had also managed to grow out of Endeavor's shadow, since almost no one referred to him as the latter's son anymore.
As mentioned before, Deku had taken up teaching as a profession at U.A. High, where he mentors the new generation of aspiring heroes alongside Shoto Aizawa. Deku was later seen admitting that after graduating and becoming adults, it became extremely difficult for him and his former classmates to meet up or stay in touch.
Regardless, Deku was proud of his former classmates and was delighted to see them advance in their careers. He was himself dedicated to giving other people dreams, since his own dream of becoming the greatest hero had already come true.
Although he did admit that his current life made him feel a bit lonely, he also claimed that encouraging others to do their best and not to give up on their dreams made him feel content.
Towards the end of chapter 430 of the My Hero Academia manga, All Might paid a visit to Deku, claiming that he wanted to give the latter a surprise gift. It was revealed to be an upgraded version of the former's battle suit, which he used in his fight against All For One eight years ago. Apparently, the data from his fight against the Demon Lord allowed Mei Hatsume and his friend from the United States to create an improved version of his battle suit.
All Might then revealed that the creation of this suit was funded by Deku's former classmates at U.A. High, with Bakugo being the biggest contributor. All Might then proceeded to give his blessings to Deku, telling him that he had earned this power fair and square.
Therefore, Deku was able to work as a hero alongside his friends once again. Although the My Hero Academia manga came to an end following this development, it also marked the beginning of a new chapter in Deku's life.
