Black Clover introduced the intriguing concept of Devils in the series as an ancient race of malevolent and magical beings that resided in the underworld. They found amusement in tormenting each other and further trifling with human beings in the world of the living.

They were also shown to be immensely powerful, possessing unique and dark magic whose only counter was Arcane Stage Magic, Saint Stage Magic and magic from other Devils.

Among these Devils stood Zagred, a cruel and evil Devil who only functioned for his amusement. Initially, upon his introduction, he was depicted to possess frightening abilities and gave his opponents a tough time. But he was eventually defeated. Here's a look at how powerful Zagred really was.

In Yuki Tabata's series, Zagred is introduced as a high-ranking Devil of immense power. He was the one credited with the creation of Licht's Five-Leaf Clover Grimoire. Zagred was also the one who brought about the slaughter/massacre of the Elf Tribe and the reincarnation of the Elves. He makes an appearance in chapter 196 of the manga and in episode 115 of the anime.

Zagred appears as a tall humanoid figure with a pair of black, bat-like wings. Atop his head are black horns, claws on his hands, and behind him, a long, arrow-tipped tail. His skin is pale and a black darkness covers with lines and wrinkles most of it. He can open extra mouths anywhere on his body, including his heart. Otherwise, he appeared as a black gas mass with eyes and a mouth.

As seen in the series, Zagred is wicked and cruel, looking down on both humans and elves and labelling them as mere toys. As stated by Yami Sukehiro, Zagred's mana oozed nothing but malice. He is very sadistic, which also reveals his arrogance in being unmatched and unstoppable. He acts based on his deepest desire - acquire a body to manifest himself and unleash chaos.

To begin with, Zagred possesses an immense reserve of mana, much more than most powerful elves. Thanks to his wings, he showcases the feat of flight as well. Moreover, Zagred can possess the bodies of other beings, which includes humans and elves.

His magic is known as Kotodama Magic. Essentially, he uses the attribute of this magic to augment his surroundings through speech. It can also be used to manifest physical and magical objects and even imitate the magic of other mages, like Dice and Switching Magic. Through a Five Leaf Grimoire, Zagred could summon underworld monsters that fed on magic and lifeforce. He also gains access to a trident that dismantles whatever it touches, even space.

Zagred proved to be quite the foe in Black Clover. His Kotodama Magic gives him the ability to change his surroundings with mere words or speech. Moreover, the trident that he can call upon wreaks havoc through its power of dismantling even space upon touch.

As seen, he was the one who slyly set up the annihilation of the Elf Tribe and only reincarnated a select few. Further, while fighting Licht, he was able to block his Ultimate Attack. He put up a great fight against Asta, Yuno, Lemiel and Licht but was eventually defeated when Yami joined the fight.

Again, he is one of the few characters in the series who can use Reincarnation Magic. Through this form of magic, he is able to revive the souls of those who passed away into the bodies of those living.
