Rankers in Tower of God are some of the most influential people in the entire webtoon/anime. Not only are they stronger than most regulars, but they are also influential in the day-to-day of the tower. Apart from commanding influence, jobs like Floor Test Administrators and Test Directors are reserved for them.
The question, "How does someone become a Ranker?" is commonly asked by Tower of God fans. To become a Ranker, one must reach the 134th floor of the tower. A task open to both Regulars and Irregulars once they are selected by Headon, the 1st floor's guardian. From there, they are subjected to a series of tests as they make their way up the tower. Those who become Rankers in the Tower of God have braved the struggles of every floor.
Difference between Tower of God's Rankers and Regulars
There is a huge gulf in terms of power between the Rankers and Regulars. Even Irregulars, like Twenty-Fifth Bam, struggle against low-level Rankers like Pan and barely win. Pan later defeats Regulars, who come to challenge him. Rankers are more adept at Shinsu control, and their combat experience is miles ahead of most regulars in Tower of God.
Rankers in the Tower of God also have various benefits attached to their position. They can waltz from floor to floor without any difficulty. They can also access the outer tower and skip floors as they have reached the highest part of the tower. Due to the gulf in strength between Rankers and Regulars, they are forbidden from entering the living areas of Regulars, and in the case of High Rankers, a warning is given whenever they appear.
Ranker subcategories explained
1) Common Rankers
The Common Rankers are powerful. They have reached the top of the tower, and that is no easy feat. The likes of Pan, Daleet, Mule Love, and Charlie are all on this table, as powerful Regulars can survive a battle with them. This is evident when Bam defeats both Pan and Daleet. Common Rankers also fear High Rankers and would rather avoid any sort of battle or altercation with them.
2) Advanced Rankers
The likes of Jordan, R, and Tall fall into the Advanced Rankers subcategory. They are extremely powerful and can hold their own against multiple Common Rankers. Most Regulars can't defeat these Rankers on their own and would normally need the help of another Ranker to stand a chance. Jordan and Bam struggled in their fight against R before he was eventually subdued.
3) High Rankers
High Rankers are the one percent of the Rankers and are way stronger than most characters. Their existence bends the rules of the Tower, and they can solely take on armies of Rankers. Enryu was able to kill an administrator on his own, which permanently altered a floor. The likes of King Zahard, Khel Hallam, and Evankhell are High Rankers.
The strongest Rankers in Tower of God, active or inactive
1) Enryu (Inactive)
Enryu has been inactive for most of Tower of God, but his name can still be heard throughout a chunk of its runtime. He is an Irregular, and he is the only character who has killed an administrator—the administrator of the 43rd floor, permanently changing the environment of that floor in the process. Enryu's legacy still lives on through the Red Thryssa on the 43rd floor.
2) King Zahard (Active)
King Zahard was not only the first irregular but also the first person to conquer the tower. After that, he set up the Kingdom of Zahard and the laws that govern the entire Tower. Zahard's Shinsu control and combat prowess have been hinted at throughout Tower of God's entire runtime. Though readers have barely seen him in battle, High Rankers have spoken about King Zahard, and he is ranked as one of the strongest by the Ranked administration office.
3) Urek Mazino (Active)
Urek is another Irregular whose raw power is rumored to be equal to that of King Zahard. He even subtly mentions that he is on equal footing with Zahard but doesn't care about ruling the tower. Furthermore, Urek has the fastest record ascent to the top of the tower. Apart from his organization, Wolhaiksong, Urek keeps to himself and only cares about reaching the top of the tower.
4) Arie Hon (Active)
Arie Hon is one of the 12 great warriors who came with King Zahard into the tower and reached the final floor with him. He uses the White Oar Sword, the only S+ rank weapon in the entire webtoon. Arie Hon's power is responsible for the number of floors his family controls. Furthermore, Urek Mazino and Arie Hon are rumored to have fought, with the battle ending in a stalemate.
5) Khun Eduan (Active)
He is the progenitor of the Khun family and remains the head of the family to this day. He is a part of the 12 great warriors who accompanied King Zahard as he made his way up the tower. He uses a spear to battle and is regarded as one of the greatest hand-to-hand combatants in the Tower of God.
Final Thoughts
While the power levels of Rankers supersede that of Regulars and Irregulars, in some cases, Regulars and Irregulars can battle with them.
Though Bam is not yet a Ranker, he holds power equal to that of many Advanced Rankers. Even Du Tong and Androssi Zahard are equally as powerful. Some Regulars complete the tower but refuse to be inducted as Rankers. Ha Chai is an example of that.
The answer to the question of "How does someone become a Ranker? " is to reach the 134th floor of the tower and accept the role of a Ranker.
