The episode begins with Tsukasa Atsumi, an ordinary salaryman, walking home from work one night when he sees steel beams falling from a construction site. Just as he thinks this will be his end, he gets saved by a beautiful kunoichi.

I'm Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!? episode 1 begins with Tsukasa Atsumi, an ordinary worker with no prospects of advancing in his career, walking down the street. A narrator introduces him to the audience, setting the tone for his mundane life. Suddenly, a loud noise startles Tsukasa, and he looks up to see steel beams falling from a construction site above.

Despite believing he will be squashed by the falling steel beams, Tsukasa is saved by the kunoichi, Shizuri Ideura, who slices through the beams with her sword. She tells him that he should be grateful to be alive, as it was a close call. Tsukasa is left stunned by Shizuri and finds himself captivated by her outfit, wondering how it doesn’t seem to bother her.

Seeing him quiet, Shizuri asks if he is injured, to which Tsukasa replies that he is fine, and thanks her for saving him from being squashed. Shizuri then explains that the real problem wasn't the steel beams but the Yoma. Noticing his confusion, she asks if he often falls ill or gets into accidents.

Tsukasa responds that it's been the same since he was a kid and asks how she knows this. She explains that his misfortunes are caused by Yoma, ghosts from another world, that are haunting him. She also tells him that since ancient times, Yoma have targeted people like him, who possess a warrior bloodline, and that she is the blade of justice protecting him from the shadows— a ninja.

Tsukasa is in complete disbelief at this explanation, finding it unconvincing coming from a cosplayer. Noticing his disbelief, Shizuri tells him to look behind him. When he does, he sees a monstrous creature, thereby instantly believing everything she said so far to be legit.

I'm Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!? episode 1 continues as Shizuri explains that Tsukasa's warrior bloodline is awakening, which means the Yoma will begin to attack him more earnestly, putting his life at a much greater risk. She then makes him a proposal: she'll protect him, but in exchange for something from him.

Tsukasa suspects that Shizuri plans to take advantage of him, but he agrees to her proposal. With this, she declares the contract is sealed and then asks if he is good at housekeeping, followed by a series of questions, such as how much money he has saved, whether he gets home late, and if he owns any gaming consoles.

Tsukasa thinks about how he has never been good at such negotiations and hopes she will go easy on him. However, the look on her face leads him to believe that he is doomed. He then takes Shizuri to his own apartment, which she is impressed by. Upon entering, she immediately changes into her casual get-up, and tells Tsukasa that she will do her best to protect him, requesting that he provide for her.

He agrees to this, filling her with excitement as she asks if she can game, to which Tsukasa nods. While gaming, she introduces herself as Shizuri Ideura, a kunoichi, and a shut-in gamer. The scene ends with the narrator relaying that this is how the struggling office worker and the aspiring NEET kunoichi became roommates.

Her daily routine consists of gaming, eating, and lounging around, which she sees as the perfect lifestyle. While content with her living situation, she assures Tsukasa that she will do her best to eliminate the Yoma and express her gratitude to him every day.

Shizuri then asks Tsukasa if he's angry, to which he replies that he might actually be happy. He admits that he has always struggled with socializing, both in school and at work, and thought Shizuri would be the one to have trouble living with him. However, Shizuri quickly dismisses his worries, telling him that to her, he is a god among men.

After a flirtatious conversation, Shizuri goes to take a bath, saying to herself that it was close, and hoping that Tsukasa did not see her blush. The narrator then relays that the kunoichi is absolutely hopeless in romantic situations. The scene shifts then to her killing a massive Yoma and saving Tsukasa in the process once again.

Shizuri then thinks to herself that Tsukasa is a bit strange when it comes to being her master, as he doesn’t seem to mind that she is a NEET when she’s not busy being a kunoichi. She starts feeling even more conflicted toward Tsukasa when he brings her a jersey from a game she loves.

She then challenges Tsukasa to a fighting game, but he defeats her on the first try, and reveals that he once won a gaming tournament. He wins every round after that, forcing Shizuri to admit that he is too good. Tsukasa also admits that it’s not so bad spending time with someone else every once in a while.

Not one to admit defeat, Shizuri asks Tsukasa to play one more round, but he refuses, saying he needs to do the laundry. Shizuri offers to do the laundry the next day. The narrator then remarks that this marks the beginning of the end for Shizuri's NEET lifestyle.

I'm Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!? episode 1 then reveals that ninjas who have accepted a master-servant contract can perceive their master's status within a certain range. With this ability, Shizuri realizes that Tsukasa is being attacked by a Yoma and rushes to protect him. As she fights the entity, she hands him a game, telling him he needs to clear it within 10 minutes.

I'm Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!? episode 1 shows Tsukasa going on a week-long business trip, leaving Shizuri alone. She hands him a protection charm designed to conceal his warrior blood, preventing the Yoma from finding him.

She explains that the charm isn’t a cheat code to escape their contract, as making it was difficult. Tsukasa reassures Shizuri that he won’t break their agreement and hands her an envelope with money so she can manage while he's away.

While browsing through her phone, Shizuri stumbles upon a limited-edition Nemu figure that's no longer in production. She spends the money Tsukasa gave her for the week to purchase it, surviving solely on bean sprouts. When Tsukasa returns from his trip, he unexpectedly surprises her with a Nemu figure as well.

Later, when Tsukasa forgets his lunch at home, Shizuri decides to bring it to him, using her shukuchi technique to appear on the roof where he was working. After handing him the food, she mentions that the game she wanted is now available. Tsukasa, hearing this, asks if she wants to go get it, causing her to call him the GOAT.

However, a photo of Shizuri taken while she was on the roof is released on social media, leading to her being tracked down by a ninja, Ayame, who idolizes Shizuri. Ayame is shocked to see how Shizuri looks after pulling her second all-nighter playing the new video game Tsukasa bought her.

Tsukasa notices Ayame on the balcony and informs Shizuri, who also gets startled seeing her. Ayame then asks Shizuri what has happened and what would people of their village think seeing her. Ayame then turns her anger towards Tsukasa, as she thinks it is him who is deceiving Shizuri.

Before she can do anything, a sword pierces across her neck, as Shizuri explains that she just returned Ayame's malicious intent, adding some of her own. Shizuri tells Ayame that whoever ruins her lifestyle will be shown no mercy. This causes Ayame to fall down to the floor with excitement at seeing Shizuri's bloodlust.

Seeing that she is getting enjoyment out of it, Shizuri tosses Ayame out of the window and tries to convince Tsukasa that not all her fellow ninjas are weirdos like Ayame. To this, Tsukasa thinks to himself that Shizuri is pretty weird herself. The episode ends with another Kunoichi looking at Shizuri and Tsukasa from a rooftop.

Conclusion

I'm Living with an Otaku NEET Kunoichi!? episode 1 sets up the plot well enough, introducing the main characters, Tsukasa and Shizuri. It also emphasizes the real danger Tsukasa faces, explaining why he agreed to live with an otaku NEET such as Shizuri. The episode also introduces Shizuri's fellow ninja, Ayame.
