I May Be a Guild Receptionist plot summary
The I May Be a Guild Receptionist anime series will adapt author Mato Kousaka and illustrator Gaou’s original light novel series of the same name. The full title of the series is I May Be a Guild Receptionist, But I’ll Solo Any Boss to Clock Out on Time. The light novels began in March 2021 and are still ongoing today, with a manga adaptation also running since June 2021. The light novels are released in English by Yen Press, which describes the series as follows:
“Alina Clover signed up to be a receptionist for the Adventurers Guild thinking it would be her ticket to the good life. Unfortunately, her dream gig turns into an overtime nightmare whenever adventurers get stuck clearing a dungeon. To save herself from paperwork, Alina takes to beating down monsters herself to solve the problem! Now she just needs to keep her activities a secret…”
The fantasy series’ unique premise and focus is a major part of the reason why so many fans have already put it on their Winter 2025 shortlist. Likewise, it serves as a perfect blend of the adventure and fantasy comedy genres while also still having opportunity for visual feasts of sakuga and high-budget animation.
What to expect from I May Be a Guild Receptionist Episode 1 (speculative)
I May Be a Guild Receptionist Episode 1 should begin with a focus on protagonist Alina Clover’s life as a guild receptionist, which should stretch to roughly the halfway point of the premiere. Specifically, this initial focus should see her going through her 9-5 job as a guild receptionist, not at all alluding to her secret identity as an adventurer.
This should be the main focus of the second episode, which is unlikely to spend any time offering significant explanations as to where Alina’s strength and skills come from. Instead, this should be explored as the series progresses, especially as others presumably inevitably discover her secret and try to persuade her to join them. The episode will likely end with a cliffhanger showing that this is exactly what has happened after her latest outing.
