Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach share positions among some of the most famous manga series on the planet. While both of their fandoms have routinely engaged in conflicts regarding their stories, they have recently come together. This was done in response to a Hunter x Hunter fan claiming that "battle shonen" mangas' highlights are the actual battles and have "no story" in them.

Both Tite Kubo and Gege Akutami's series have been widely regarded for delivering lore and character stories via mundane dialogue, with the character arcs culminating in fights. As a result, both of these opposing fandoms have come together after the fan's claims.

Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach fans pull out all the stops against Hunter x Hunter fan's claim

The Bleach and Jujutsu Kaisen fandoms have recently risen in prominence due to their relatively new anime adaptations, with the latter being currently one of the most popular series on the planet. Although these series have clashed with each other over which one has better story writing and fights, it is acknowledged that the character stories and arcs built throughout the series culminate in a fight between two characters and their ideals.

Recently, a Hunter x Hunter fan claimed that battle shonen series like Tite Kubo and Gege Akutami's series have no actual substance or story outside of the huge flashy fights, with the entire manga being reduced to a gauntlet of fights. While a few fans agreed with the post, many fans of the called-out series started mentioning that this was not true.

Fan reaction to the post

A few fans mentioned Bleach's Fullbring arc and Jujutsu Kaisen's Hidden Inventory arc, highlighting how both of these arcs served as pillars for their series' story and lore. One fan also mentioned how it is counterproductive to read a "battle shonen" while hating fights, suggesting that reading something from the Shojo genre would be better since they are fully character-driven.

A few other fans mentioned how both series have much more than just fights, but they often get slandered because it is rather popular to do so on social networking sites.

"Bleach and jjk have much more to offer than fights but you can't see that. You refuse to look deeper and just want to sh** on the shoe cause it's more popular," a fan claimed.
"The fights are the medium of communication in the battle shonen mangas. Why would you even come to the shonen genre and not expect fights to be main highlight?" another fan asked.

A few other fans have mentioned how Gege Akutami and Tite Kubo's series mostly tell their stories through fights, unlike Hunter x Hunter, where a lot of information is unveiled through text spanning multiple pages.

"hxh fans when a battle shonen manga has battles that tell stories instead of characters expositing at each other for pages," one fan said.
"JJK really is about to go through that same dark period Bleach did simply because for some reason a strong amount of people can’t read," another fan said.

Jujutsu Kaisen will be ending in September 2024 with the release of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271, while the Bleach series has already been completed, with rumors of a possible Hell arc. The Hunter x Hunter series will be releasing a new chapter on October 7, 2024.

While all of these series have slightly different ways of telling their stories, it is important to note that battles will always be the main focus of the "battle shonen" subgenre.
