Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 15 has finally dropped and with it came exciting developments. First and foremost, we got to see the addition of a new member to the Shinju in Ryu. Modelled after Gaara's adoptive son, Shinki, Ryu seems as dangerous and intimidating as the rest of the group.
Also, we got to see Boruto and Kawaki agree to team up against the threat of the "God Tree People". This was something that was heavily anticipated and Mikio Ikemoto giving to us at last was highly welcome. But at the same time, Ikemoto could play a wicked joke on Gaara fans with the introduction of Ryu. Here's a closer look.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex: Gaara fans might be the subject of a wicked Ikemoto gag
As seen in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 15, Ryu was born when Shinki was turned into a tree. The attack on Sunagakure by Matsuri was a partial success since the Shinju were unable to get Gaara. But instead of him, they received a strong and capable comrade in Ryu, who immediately showed his control over Iron Sand by pulling Code out of his claw marks.
Ikemoto could use this opportunity to take the story further and show us what happens when the Shinju consume their target. Given that Shinki sealed Gaara away in an Iron Sand Prison, only he can undo the jutsu. But with Shinki gone and Ryu's birth, now the latter possesses the means to undo Shinki's technique and free Gaara.
Moreover, given the location of Code's claw marks, Ryu can easily teleport to where he needs to complete his mission. Even without the claw marks, the Shinju have shown their ability to quickly reach their target's location. If Ryu does manage to free Gaara and consume him, it will definitely make a lot of fans of the Fifth Kazekage unhappy.
Again, stopping Ryu will also be a considerable challenge, as he possesses abilities in tandem with Shinki. It does not need to be mentioned how strong the boy is. His ability to control Iron Sand itself is impressive enough. Ryu will make a tough opponent for those willing to stand in his way for whenever he chooses to make his way to Gaara.
The only likely parties who might stand a chance against Ryu are Boruto and Kawaki. Them teaming up will be significant to the story. But even so, given the abilities Ryu possesses, it might take a great effort from the pair. Also, it could likely take some time for Ryu to undo the seal and Kawaki needs to confront Amado about his limiters first, so that might be a saving grace.
Final thoughts
In Naruto, in Boruto and now in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Gaara has been established an important supporting figure with regards to Shinki and the Village Hidden in the Sand in general. Not to mention, at a time like this with the Shinju on the loose, his importance grows further since he too is now one of their targets.
With Ryu targeting Gaara, Ikemoto has set up a cryptic narrative for the Fifth Kazekage and his allies. He faces an increasingly troubling future and potentially result in an appalling twist involving Gaara, which fans fear might lead to a tragedy or an irredeemable situation.
Such a possibility feels like a cruel joke on fans who have been fans of the Sand Shinobi for years, who might face an end soon.
