As fans must have witnessed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 14, the Konoha elders weren't pleased with Shikamaru Nara's decisions in trying to deal with Boruto. Hence, Koharu Utatane warned Shikamaru that he would have to face lasting consequences for failing to restrain Boruto despite having him under their custody.

But what consequences might Shikamaru face as an interim Hokage? Being the village head, there was realistically no punishment that could affect him other than his eviction from the position. This suggests that the Land of Fire's Daimyo might finally pick a new Hokage by evicting Shikamaru from his interim role.

Concerning this, one Boruto fan on Reddit u/zero787878 believes that Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto would name Kawaki as the next Hokage in the manga.

How does Ikemoto plan on making Kawaki the next Hokage in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex?

As fans must have seen in the previous chapter, Shikamaru Nara got Mitsuki to free Boruto from the Jutsu sealing cuffs all under the pretense of questioning. However, the Konoha elders and Shinobi were unaware of this as they thought that the interim Hokage was simply taking a risk by employing Mitsuki to torture Boruto.

Hence, Konohamaru Sarutobi had even warned him that Mitsuki might straight up attack Boruto and not allow them to continue their questioning. As presumed, Mitsuki "attacked" Boruto, which evidently saw the "outsider" escape Konoha. Upon witnessing this, the Konoha elders were furious.

Hence, Koharu Utatane warned Shikamaru that the Daimyos would be unhappy about what happened. Therefore, he could face lasting consequences for his actions. Effectively, there is nothing more a Daimyo would do to Shikamaru than evict him from his office and appoint a new Hokage.

As far as the current Daimyo of the Land of Fire is concerned, fans might remember that he was last involved in the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations manga. In the story arc, Boruto helps the Daimyo's son Tentō Madoka and forms a bond with him. That relationship could now end up as a curse in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga.

Given that following the Omnipotence Shinjutsu, Tento would now consider Kawaki his friend and not Boruto, the manga could now see the Daimyo favor Kawaki. Hence, if a new Hokage was actually to be brought into position, Kawaki could have the Daimyo's support.

This was even hinted at in the manga's sixth chapter as Shikamaru refused to take up the Eighth Hokage's position. This decision painted a bad picture of the Hidden Leaf Village as the Konoha elders wished to bring about a change.

According to u/zero787878, this could also be the reason why Kawaki had a different outfit in the flash-forward shown in the manga's first chapter. After Kawaki is possibly made the Hokage, he could change his attire.

While this development seems improbable due to Kawaki's age, the elders are known for making bad decisions in the Naruto-Boruto universe. Moreover, fans must also remember that the Hidden Sand Village had made Gaara the Kazekage at a similar age. Hence, Kawaki being made the Hokage was not outside the realm of possibilities.

Such a development was also hinted at by Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto at the Kana event in France. They had stated that Kawaki was soon set to have a new character development. While there is no way to confirm it for now, their hint could have been referring to Kawaki's induction as the Eighth Hokage.
