The character Aoyamna Yuga from the animanga My Hero Academia wasn't very popular among fans. Initially, fans might have found it hard to take the character seriously because of how he was portrayed. He was often used for comedic relief and his Quirk wasn’t particularly typical of shonen main characters. He was a deuteragonist through and through, and viewers didn’t particularly have an opinion about him.

However, certain anime-only fans might have come across some material on the internet that led to them wondering if Aoyama is Quirkless in My Hero Academia. However, Aoyama is not Quirkless in My Hero Academia. He has the Navel Laser Quirk which was shown in the very beginning of the animanga series when he was first introduced to viewers.

My Hero Academia: Was Aoyama born Quirkless?

The answer to the question of whether Aoyama was born Quirkless lies in the manga chapters. In the later stages of the manga, it was revealed that Aoyama was indeed born Quirkless. Just like Midoriya, he wasn’t blessed with a unique set of abilities which upset him and his parents.

His parents were worried that society would turn them into outcasts since it was a world where Quirks and unique abilities were the norm. However, he managed to receive the Navel Laser Quirk all thanks to his parents’ efforts. That being said, the source that gave him the Quirk was one of the most sinister entities in the world.

How did Aoyama get his Quirk in My Hero Academia?

If the Quirk was given to him, who gave it and how did he receive it? Aoyama got his Quirk from All For One, the main antagonist of the series. Aoyama’s family was extremely wealthy and they didn’t want their son to feel like an outcast in their society. Out of sheer desperation, his parents contacted All For One and asked him to give their son a Quirk.

AFO agreed, but he wanted something in return. Aoyama’s parents would now serve AFO and they leaked plenty of sensitive information from the U.A. and their son Aoyama was involved as well. This was revealed in the manga and all heroes were shocked to know the identity of the traitor.

Power and evolution of Aoyama’s Quirk in My Hero Academia

Aoyama’ Quirk, Navel Laser wasn’t particularly the most interesting Quirks, but it was quite functional. At first, the laser can only be fired for a period of one second. Following this, there was a cooldown period, and extending the duration of the laser caused him immense pain. However, the Laser became incredibly powerful with time and it even managed to blast through two meters of solid concrete.

He trained his body to the point of exhaustion in the earlier stages of the animanga series. He pushed through the pain and practiced firing the laser, improving his body’s ability to withstand the effects of firing for longer than one second. After a point, he was able to fire them for longer than a second which was seen when he used Navel Saber, which was his ultimate move.

However, his Quirk evolved and it was shown in the manga series. He and Toru took on Kunieda and Aoyama was on the verge of death. When he was pushed to this extent, his Quirk became so powerful it interfered with Toru’s Quirk. She was no longer invisible, and she said that it was the result of Aoyama’s Quirk undergoing an evolution.
