With the television anime adaptation of mangaka Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece series on hiatus until April 2025, many fans are taking the opportunity to switch to and catch up on the manga. This means progressing through the climax of the Egghead Arc, which takes place shortly after the anime went on hiatus and the start of what comes after.
Likewise, some fans are asking, 'Is Ginny Kuma’s wife in One Piece?' after speeding through that enthralling section of the Egghead Arc’s events. Ginny and Bartholomew Kuma were never married in the series, but it is made overtly clear that they did love each other romantically.

Ginny’s actual marriage, explained
As mentioned above, the answer to 'Is Ginny Kuma’s wife in One Piece?' is no. The two were never married. However, Ginny was married to someone other than Kuma before she died, being forced to marry an unnamed World Noble as his eighth wife. This occurred after the World Government captured her during her time in Monkey D. Dragon’s Revolutionary Army alongside Kuma.
As of this article’s writing, there is no clear answer on who the World Noble Ginny married. However, it is presumed that her daughter, Jewelry Bonney, was a result of this forced marriage.
This likewise led many to suspect late Gorosei member Saint Jaygarcia Saturn as Bonney’s father and Ginny’s husband. This was due to the fact that he conducted an experiment involving Devil Fruit essences and transfers on Bonney when she was a baby.
However, Saturn has since died in the series and been replaced in the Gorosei by Saint Garling Figarland, former leader of the Holy Knights. He likewise died before any information regarding him being Bonney’s father was confirmed or denied. While it’s still possible that he is eventually revealed as Bonney’s father, it seems unlikely given this fact. There are other agreed-upon options, but none with as strong a case as Saturn had to be Ginny’s husband/Bonney’s father.
Ginny and Kuma’s relationship in One Piece
While the answer to the question of 'Is Ginny Kuma’s wife in One Piece?' is simple in itself, there is some necessary context to be added. Although the two were never married, it’s clear that the two loved each other very much. They first met as children, both slaves in God Valley, then escaped and started new lives together in the Sorbet Kingdom. Ginny even asked Kuma to marry her during this time, but he declined.
However, he declined due to his love for her and desire not to endanger her via his Buccaneer heritage. He had seen this play out with his Buccaneer father and human mother. The two then joined Dragon’s Revolutionary Army and were separated when Ginny was captured, though she later escaped. They were able to speak via Transponder Snail, but she died before Kuma made it to her location.
Likewise, Kuma missed her confession of love to him via Transponder Snail since he was trying to rush to her side. Kuma’s mutual feelings are clear not only from his reasons for rejecting marriage but also from his mourning her death and his decision to raise Bonney as his daughter. In short, the two may never have been married, but they were as in love with each other as any two people can be.
In summation
While Ginny was not Kuma’s wife, the two longtime friends loved each other very much, even if they never cemented an official relationship. Ginny outwardly confesses her love for Kuma with her dying breath, while Kuma’s actions and internal monologue highlight his mutual feelings for her.
