Naruto fans often ask the question "Is Hagoromo a good guy?" because of the way he comes across during his appearances at the end of the original manga. The most straightforward answer is that Hagoromo is a good guy and that has been shown throughout his actions in the series.

He is the son of Kaguya Otsutsuki. He is often referred to as the Sage of Six Paths, and, by all intents and purposes, the creator of modern shinobi.

Hagoromo plays a monumental role in helping Naruto and his friends to win the Fourth Shinobi Great War, which includes defeating his unsealed mother Kaguya in the process. There are still some questions regarding his morality.

It is due to some fans believing that Kaguya's reign was more benevolent than anything else. Also, Hagoromo's actions led to more harm than good, although that last part is up to interpretation.

Explaining how Hagoromo is a good guy in Naruto

Fans opine that the legendary Sage of Six Paths made the wrong decision by sealing Kaguya when she was ruling the planet. It was because she was being "benevolent" and that Hagoromo's poor handling of his sons, Asura and Indra, led to centuries of chaos.

However, Hagoromo sealed Kaguya because the latter was becoming tyrannical and taking thousands of innocent lives without any regrets, thus justifying his actions to seal her away. Moreover, Indra proved to grow resentful at every turn and became a figure of destruction. It was reflected in his reincarnations throughout the years.

Even then, Hagoromo still stepped in to help the protagonist and Sasuke Uchiha by granting them the power to help defeat Madara Uchiha and, later on, Kaguya herself. It could be argued that he made mistakes but they weren't out of malice or selfish reasons. He was rather trying to help others.

As Kaguya Otsutsuki became the Ten-Tails and began to cause chaos everywhere, the first morally good action Hagoromo did, alongside his brother Hamura, was to seal their mother away and break her Infinite Tsukuyomi. That was also when he became the first-ever Jinchuriki and the Sage of Six Paths, thus starting the shinobi as most people in Naruto know it.

Hagoromo also wanted to preserve peace across the world and even within his own family as he always attempted for his sons (Asura and Indra) to get along. Even in his final moments, Hagoromo created a tablet, that could only be understood with a Rinnegan, with a message to Indra and his descendants to stop their path of hatred and resentment.

Later on, he would appear in front of Naruto and Sasuke to explain the concept of reincarnation and how they were this era's version of Indra and Asura. As mentioned earlier, he gave them the power to challenge Madara Uchiha.

Hagoromo aimed to maintain peace and while he made mistakes along the way, such as his treatment of Indra, he always attempted to help others as reflected in his actions.
