One of the biggest highlights of the One Piece manga’s recently concluded Egghead Arc was the naming of the Gorosei, beginning with Saint Jaygarcia Saturn. Saint Saturn is particularly notable for his role as the main antagonist during the arc's climax. Gorosei also played antagonistic roles, they did so on a smaller scale than Saturn.
Fans were left in disbelief that the ex-Gorosei member’s role in the story seemingly concluded with the Egghead Arc. This has led many to ask, “Is Saturn defeated in One Piece?” out of sheer shock for this apparent development. While there is an answer, it may not be one that fans hoping for his return will particularly like.

Saint Saturn’s current status in One Piece
Saint Saturn was killed in One Piece chapter 1125 for his failure at Egghead Island, with Imu killing him by taking away his apparent immortality. As of this article's writing, it remains unclear how Imu did so, but it’s made clear that he took something away from Saturn that undid his immortality. This is highlighted by the appearance Saint Saturn’s body takes as Imu continues killing him, showing him as almost mummified.
Saturn’s death is further confirmed by the aftermath of this process, which sees a final burst of black flame leaving nothing but Saturn’s bones behind. Chapter 1125 also confirms that Saturn is dead by showing Holy Knights leader Saint Garling Figarland being promoted to Saturn’s rank in the Gorosei. While it’s unclear who the new Holy Knights leader is, Garling is now known as the new Warrior God of Science and Defense.
Why Saturn was killed
While the above answers the question of whether Saturn was defeated in One Piece,” it doesn’t fully explain why Saturn was killed by Imu. As mentioned above, it was due to the overall failure of his mission to Egghead. Upon arrival, Saturn’s main objectives were killing all of the Vegapunks but York and securing the Mother Flame Power Plant.
In the end, Saturn was only successful on the latter front, with all of the Vegapunks aside from Stella, the true Dr. Vegapunk, having survived in one sense or another. However, his failures at Egghead go well beyond not achieving this objective and begin with Dr. Vegapunk’s broadcast to the world. This saw Dr. Vegapunk begin a prerecorded broadcast to the world, which revealed key details of the Void Century and more to them.
Saturn and the forces he led were unable to stop this before an incredible amount of key information was revealed, which certainly played into Imu’s decision. This is because Imu is the victor of the Void Century War, which Dr. Vegapunk references. While Imu’s existence wasn’t ousted by the broadcast, people like Sabo who know of them now understand who they truly are.
The final failure was allowing Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates to escape, thanks to the interference of Emeth and, through the Ancient Robot, Joy Boy. Emeth unleashed a store of Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki to defeat all the Gorosei and Marines on Egghead. This failure is what Imu references specifically in their final words to Saturn before killing him. Additionally, it was revealed that Saturn was responsible for Emeth’s survival in contemporary events.
In summation
Unfortunately, the answer to the question “Is Saturn defeated in One Piece” is a resounding yes. Saturn was killed at the end of the Egghead Arc by Imu via the latter taking away the former’s immortality. Saturn was killed for his many failures at Egghead, but most notably for Emeth helping the Straw Hats escape by using a store of Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki.
