My Hero Academia season 7 episode 11 was released on July 20, 2024, and adapted Bakugo's last attack on Shigaraki. While Bakugo's death happened in chapter 362 of the manga, almost the entire fandom agreed that the scene might not be adapted suitably.

Bakugo's "death" was inarguably one of the biggest events to occur during the Final War arc of the manga. While the previous seasons had reduced expectations for this scene to be adapted well, season 7 managed to raise all expectations, despite being produced alongside the You're Next movie.

My Hero Academia anime enhances Bakugo's death

The beginning episodes delivered a well-animated Star and Stripes vs. Shigaraki fight, and the recent arc started adapting the Heroes vs. All for One fight, including Bakugo's "death" at the hands of Shigaraki.

While the manga panel of this particular scene was one of the most impactful and well-detailed panels, the anime managed to enhance it by emphasizing the pale skin, disheveled hair, and lifeless eyes, which weren't as prominent in the manga.

Fan reaction to Bakugo's "death"

While Bakugo's "death" had very few panels dedicated to it, the anime adaptation's choice of OST, along with the extended scenes, managed to deliver the entire sequence in a way acceptable to the entire fandom.

Few fans mentioned how the entire color palette swap for this particular scene managed to capture Bakugo's life leaving him, signified by the fading, desaturated coloring of the frame.

One fan mentioned that while mangas have previously depicted many deaths and the concept of an on-screen death isn't new to the medium, this is one of the few times that the anime adaptation has managed to make a death more gruesome than the manga.

"For the first time the anime managed to make some more gruesome than the manga," one fan mentioned.
"The colour literally drained from him holy sh**," another fan wrote.

Few fans also mentioned the contrast between the manga and the anime versions of the same death. While the manga version has a more somber tone, the anime version has a more dreadful tone.

"I really love both, the manga is more angelic in a way while the anime is nightmarish making you realize the situation as dreadful as it is. in both cases the representation of death stucks," one fan wrote.

One fan also mentioned how it was even possible for Studio Bones to adapt Bakugo's death in such a way, especially since a lot of fanart and colorings had done so previously, each of them doing a really good job.

"how the hell did Bones manage to make this scene look even more painful than every colouring and fanart did," another fan mentioned.

My Hero Academia season 7 episode 11 ended with Best Jeanist leaning over Bakugo's cold body. The actual state of Bakugo might be revealed in episode 12, but otherwise, episode 11 has marked Katsuki Bakugo's death.
