How Joy Boy and Luffy could be the same person in One Piece, explained

The theory that Joy Boy and Luffy are the same person in One Piece gives an interesting spin to the complex plot of the series. This gives a cyclical timeline instead of a linear one where events from the present are mixed with those of the future, suggesting that history is repeating itself.

According to theory, Luffy of the present timeline is said to be the actual Joy Boy of the Void Century. This would reveal many of the series' mysteries, especially Kozuki Toki's precise knowledge about the future and advanced technology developed during ancient times.

One major evidence for this theory is the repeated case of lost or altered memory. This theory suggests that Luffy and his crew have traveled this path multiple times, losing their memories in each instance, which may be the reason for so many of the backgrounds of the Straw Hat Pirates being orphaned or mysterious.

It is based on subtle hints in the course of the series, lights through which lyrics from some songs, like "Memories" and "Binks' Sake," relate to time, memory, and endless travel.

Even some latest manga chapters contain clues that might be interpreted as favoring this theory like the technology possessed by Egghead and the knowledge Vegapunk has about the past.

In addition to this, it is hypothesized that Laugh Tale, the extreme end of the Grand Line, might be the location outside the scope of regular time or world.

This could explain the behavior of Gol D. Roger when, as he reached the place, laughed, and said that he would have liked to have lived in Joy Boy's time – probably having realized that Joy Boy was not a relic of the past but a figure of the future.

The theory of Luffy and Joy Boy being the same person, also explains some other mysteries, such as the origin of Poneglyphs and the nature of Ancient Weapons. It postulates that perhaps these were the works of people from the current timeline of Luffy who somehow managed to go into the past.

Though rather speculative, the theory has its own potential inconsistencies, yet somehow forms an interesting framework for interpreting this rather complex world of One Piece, shaking one up to rethink assumptions about the timeline and true identities of its characters.

The theory that Joy Boy and Luffy could be the same person does add an interesting depth to One Piece's storyline. It goes beyond proposing that Luffy is just a reincarnation but really the Joy Boy of the Void Century, speaking of a cyclical timeline where past and present lines are blurred.

This theory is supported by hints such as Toki's foresight and the advanced ancient civilization. Along with the memory loss, time travel, and cryptic songs, all seem to be pointing towards a repeating journey that Eiichiro Oda masterfully keeps fans on tenterhooks with the unfolding of every clue into Luffy being Joy Boy.
