Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 257 spoilers confirm a longtime theory about Yuji and Sukuna's blood relation

Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen series is certainly no stranger to fan theories. Every week, fans come up with theories that either end up being true at some point or are disregarded because they are downright ridiculous to begin with.

However, one theory that became extremely popular among the fandom suggested that Yuji and Sukuna might share a deeper bond that could date all the way back to the Heian Era. According to this theory, Yuji could be Sukuna's reincarnated twin brother from the Heian Era and was destined to put an end to the King of Curses after being reincarnated into the modern era.

While this particular theory was seemingly confirmed in the initial translations of the upcoming chapter, it was later revealed that the one directly connected to Sukuna was Yuji's father, Jin Itadori.

In the revised translations of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 257, Sukuna and Uraume are seen in a flashback scene discussing Yuji's origins. The King of Curses shockingly reveals that Jin is his reincarnated twin from the Heian Era.

According to Sukuna, when he was still in his mother's womb, he had absorbed his twin brother because he was "hungry." The soul of the twin brother was reincarnated into the modern era as Jin Itadori, with whom Kenjaku later created Yuji.

It was previously revealed in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga that Kenjaku had possessed the dead body of Jin Itadori's wife, Kaori Itadori, at some point in time, following which he gave birth to Yuji. This particular reveal had completely caught fans off-guard at the time, as it completely changed the course of the narrative.

Following this reveal, Yuji's extraordinary physical abilities suddenly made sense to fans, who deduced that Kenjaku might have created Yuji to serve as a suitable vessel for the King of Curses.

Now that Yuji has seemingly been confirmed to have a more intimate connection to Sukuna in the spoilers for the upcoming chapter, the former was also seen to have gained the latter's "Shrine" Cursed Technique.

The revelation of Jin being Sukuna's reincarnated twin is something that no one saw coming, as it completely derailed those fans who believed that Yuji was Sukuna's twin from the Heian Era.

Fans have long theorized that Yuji shares a direct blood relation with Sukuna. However, no one certainly expected him to be the nephew of the King of Curses. That said, this could explain Sukuna's deep hatred for Yuji in particular, as the former may not be too happy seeing a member of his family still alive and becoming a prison for him rather than a vessel.

Yuji's direct relationship with not one but two main antagonists of the series certainly makes his life even more messed up than before. However, this revelation sheds some light on Kenjaku's intentions behind choosing Jin Itadori to conceive a child for his nefarious purposes.
