Megumi fighting back is not enough to hold back the King of Curses in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266
Why Yuji cannot ask Megumi to fight back
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 begins with Yuji Itadori listening to Megumi’s soul and telling him what would have truly made him happy. It would be a world where his sister, Tsumiki, does not have to suffer, where they can enjoy moments such as eating home-cooked meals, watching sunlight on drying clothes, and most importantly, seeing Tsumiki walking beside someone like Yuji. However, it seems Megumi has given up on these dreams.
Yuji also reflects on the hardships of life that he did not fully grasp before, such as his grandfather’s decision to avoid treatment to escape painful side effects or why some people choose euthanasia. His experiences at Jujutsu High have made him realize that facing these challenges for the rest of his life is so daunting that he cannot even ask Megumi to continue living.
Yuji vs Sukuna begins
In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266, Sukuna tries to use the Hollow Wicker Basket, an Anti-Domain Technique. It is then said that Gojo has a method to rehabilitate his brain and reset a Cursed Technique that has been burned out by a Domain. However, performing this while Sukuna’s brain is still affected by Unlimited Void would be too dangerous.
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 then explains that the Hollow Wicker Basket and Simple Domain have weaker effects compared to Domains that manifest mental images. While it is possible to buy time until the Domains' attacks cannot miss, eventually being overpowered is unavoidable.
However, Sukuna is able to counter the weak output by continuing the palm signs after activating Hollow Wicker Basket, allowing him to keep fighting without being overpowered by Yuji's Domain.
Fans then see Yuji take a swing at Sukuna, to which Sukuna responds with an elbow to Yuji's head and tosses him away. After taking a few more hits, Yuji gets back on his feet. Meanwhile, Sukuna is still pretty mad about Yuji looking down on him and is determined to make every human pay for it.
Why Yuji asks Megumi to fight back
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 then depicts a young Megumi looking at Yuji with a confused expression. Yuji, in tears, tells Megumi that he feels lonely without him.
Back in the battle scene, Sukuna finds one of his legs disappear. His Malevolent Shrine and Ten Shadows Technique also fail, which leads him to realize that Yuji’s Dismantle has revived Megumi, who is fighting back despite being in the Bath.
Yuji's next blow sends Sukuna flying, and Yuji smiles, understanding the situation. He then unleashes a barrage of punches on Sukuna's skull. Sukuna is concerned that his Reverse Cursed Technique will not be enough to keep up with Yuji's attacks and that his Hollow Wicker Basket might shatter.
Sukuna’s surprise
Just then, in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266, as Yuji's gauntlet shatters, revealing a hand with two missing fingers, his first thought is that Sukuna has replenished his Cursed Technique. He realizes that Sukuna has used Gojo's Burnt-Out Cursed Technique. The King of Curses then unleashes his Domain.
In another unexpected turn of events at the end of the chapter, readers see one of Sukuna's fingers dangling at the bottom of a long spiral staircase. This finger was previously thought to have been consumed by Rika, but it seems that may not have been the case.
