Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 was expected, by many, to capitalize on the apparent foreshadowing of Satoru Gojo’s return, which had been set up in recent issues. Officially released earlier this weekend, the issue unfortunately didn’t revive the fan-favorite character, instead focusing on additional wrapup and closure from the Shinjuku arc.
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 also provides some interesting setup for the final installment of Gege Akutami’s story in the form of a mission Yuji Itadori and co receive. While nothing is clear yet, many are taking this to mean a sequel for the series is coming despite no official word on any such continuation as of this article’s writing.
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 provides key wrapup for Culling Games side characters and Megumi Fushiguro
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270: Survivors of Shinjuku
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 begins with Megumi Fushiguro at the Fushiguro family grave where Tsumiki and presumably his mother are buried. Megumi thanks the also present Shoki Ieiri for cremating and setting up Tsumiki’s grave, to which she says her actions helping Tsumiki rest is all the thanks she needs. Shoko also says “that moron” should’ve let her handle Geto’s body, meaning Satoru Gojo, to which Megumi agrees.
He then gets a call telling him to head somewhere, leading to the pair parting ways. As Shoko is about to light a cigarette, she decides to throw her pack in the trash and seemingly quits as the focus shifts to the Holy Mountain of Hida. Specifically, it shifts to where Sukuna’s remains were resting with Yoshinobu Gakuganji, Akari Nitta, and Utahime Iori present. Gakuganji explains that Tengen was found amongst Sukuna’s remains after he was ripped from Megumi’s body.
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 sees one of the latter pair ask what this means for Tengen’s barriers, which are said to be staying in place if Sukuna’s remnants remain preserved. In turn, this seemingly confirms that the Merger has been successfully and permanently stopped, pending the destruction of Sukuna’s corpse. One of Utahime or Akari adds that they should hurry with putting countermeasures into place, but Gakuganji says not to be so hasty.
He furthers that they’re still young and needn’t worry about themselves yet, seemingly a means of honoring Gojo who once showed approval of him to essentially become the new “higher-ups.”
What seems Noritoshi Kamo and his clan returning to Japan appear as he says this, before the focus shifts to Maki Zen’in, Hagane Daido, and Rokujushi Miyo. Maki first gifts Daido a Cursed Tool katana while discussing the fact that the incarnated sorcerers will be effectively killed soon.
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 also sees her discuss the sorcerers stolen by the American military before adding that they can’t let the two of them go just because they’re nice. However, she follows this up by saying that since Tokyo is publicly believed to be the only place where Cursed Spirits manifest, it would be safe to hide out. Daido is clearly interested in the idea, while Miyo rejects the concept of sumo wrestling a Cursed Spirit.
Maki adds that they can do what they like, but this is the last time she’ll be helping them out before telling them to scram. As she leaves, Daido calls out to her and says she better be there when it’s time to kill him, since he’d be sure to cut her down, which she smiles at. The focus then shifts to Charles Bernard and his editor, discussing aspects of manga in general as the former hurries to finish his manuscript in time to go to the print shop.
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270: One final ride…?
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 then shifts focus to Fumihiko Takaba, who is sitting at a restaurant booth and speaking to someone about the comedic material they should and shouldn’t do. The partner, blocked by the wall in a shot from outside the restaurant through a window, says it’s the same, which Takaba disputes. The two are then seen leaving, with a speech bubble blocking the partner's face but showing his ear and hair, which look very similar to Kenjaku’s as Suguru Geto.
The two then leave to rehearse as they banter with each other, with the focus then shifting again to Rin Amai. He’s seen approaching the student at his school who he once watched get bullied and did nothing about, apologizing to him for doing so. However, the student scowls, says nothing, and leaves. The focus then shifts once more to Hiromi Higuruma, seemingly at his law office and discussing cases while saying he’ll be worked to the bone as a sorcerer.
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 sees Higuruma seemingly being put on trial by his coworker, as the focus shifts once again to Hana Kurusu and Angel, who are with Megumi. Angel comments on how Sukuna tricking them means Megumi’s memories of her have been unearthed by him, saying there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Megumi, feeling guilty for the loss of her arm at his physical hands, asks to be her right hand from now on.
Hana asks if she hears wedding bells, which Megumi gets embarrassed about, and stutters his way out of the conversation to go on his mission. The focus then shifts once again to a woman getting home to her apartment, where she speaks with her partner who is revealed to have large, inhuman eyes. Kiyotaka Ijichi reveals him as Fukuzawa Sota, age 26, whose fiancée claimed his face looked like it was morphing as of two weeks ago.
Yet, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 sees the trio comment on how his face doesn’t look warped to them. They then hold up a drawing of how his fiancée is seeing him before deducing that the one who’s actually cursed is her. Kugisaki goes to give her a physical while Megumi claims the Cursed Energy residue here isn’t enough to cause this, adding it’s also unlikely to be the work of a Cursed Spirit since she’s not possessed.
He deduces it’s the work of a Curse User, but adds there’s no murderous intent, deducing them to be a surviving Culling Game incarnated player. However, he follows up with the fact that Semi-Grade 1 and above Cursed Spirits possess free will, and can thus hold back.
He also poses the possibility of a situation like Yasohachi Bridge, which led to Tsumiki’s original coma. The issue ends with Yuji optimistically saying this will be easy for the trio, explicitly setting up the final chapter’s focus.
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270: In summation
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 270 succeeds both as a tantalizing setup for the series’ sendoff next week and as a means of closure to the Culling Games and Shinjuku Showdown arcs. While the future of Akutami’s media franchise is unclear as of this article’s writing, it seems a relatively fun final installment is in store at a minimum.
That being said, there are aspects of chapter 270 that suggest a sequel may be coming, such as the idea of introducing a Curse User in the final release and Takaba’s partner. Fans should thankfully know what the series’ future status is shortly after chapter 271’s release next week on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 12 am Japanese Standard Time.
