Jujutsu Kaisen probably has a before and after the Gojo vs. Sukuna battle since it became such a momentous occasion for the fandom. While the conclusion of the conflict was the most controversial and debated aspect of the battle to this very day, Ryomen Sukuna's statement of a "Three against one" fight has also been misunderstood greatly by the fandom.
After taking over Megumi’s body, Sukuna gained access to the Ten Shadows Technique, using powerful Shikigami like Mahoraga and Chimera Agito in his fight against Gojo. Some fans argue this was an unfair tactic for someone deemed "the strongest," yet they often overlook similar strategies used by other characters in the series.

Explaining that calling the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight a "1v3" is a mistake made by Jujutsu Kaisen fans
During the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight in the manga, the latter made use time and time again of Megumi Fushiguro's Ten Shadows Cursed Technique because he had taken over his body. The use of the legendary Shikigami, Mahoraga, has become the source of endless memes online but he also merged several of those creatures into the Chimera Agito, with the villain telling Gojo that it was "three against one".
While is easy to take the character's word to heart, it is worth pointing out that he is the only individual in the series who gets criticism for this claim of having the numerical edge over his opponent. For example, when Megumi Fushiguro used his Ten Shadows ability, no one said that it was "eleven against one" but the King of Curses does get criticism.
There are also the examples of Suguru Geto and Kenjaku who can eat Curses and use their abilities and even outright summon them, but they don't get that treatment either. The same can be applied to Yuta Okkotsu's usage of Rika and the reality is that all of these characters are using the Cursed Techniques at their disposal, much like Sukuna.
More about this
Perhaps the biggest reason that Sukuna receives this criticism from a section of the Jujutsu Kaisen community is that his battle with Satoru Gojo was supposed to determine who was the strongest among the two. Therefore, there is the perception that his resorting to Mahoraga and Agito highlights hisweaknesses, which is honestly the contrary.
No other sorcerer in history had tamed Mahoraga, and Sukuna’s use of Chimera Agito showcased his mastery of the Ten Shadows Technique. This feat, often overshadowed by other fighters in the battle, proves his strength. Criticizing Sukuna’s status as "the strongest" ignores how past Ten Shadows users couldn’t match his mastery. His dominance in the Shinjuku Showdown arc further solidifies his supremacy.
Final thoughts
The Gojo vs. Sukuna fight is bound to be an endless debate in the Jujutsu Kaisen community for years to come, with the "three against one" comment only adding more fuel to the fire. However, this is just the King of Curses using one of the abilities at his disposal, which is not too different from some examples as mentioned earlier.
