The Gojo vs. Sukuna fight is one of the most prominent events in the history of Jujutsu Kaisen, rivaling even the weekly release of the Shibuya Incident arc episodes. While the fight ended with Sukuna’s victory and Gojo’s death, it remains a heavily discussed topic among fans of both characters.

Jujutsu Kaisen has explored many themes and their direct oppositions, with one of the most prominent examples being the dynamics between Yuji and Mahito or Yuji and Sukuna. These themes are prevalent throughout the series, and the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight embodies this very idea.

Talent vs. hard work has always been a point of discussion, especially in series that focus heavily on action. This debate was further exemplified in the Jujutsu Kaisen series after chapter 236, where discussions around Sukuna and Gojo being depictions of talent vs. hard work started to emerge.

While many previously thought Gojo was the truly talented one, Sukuna, assuming his true form and the implications that came with it, changed the entire narrative. Sukuna assumed his Heian Era form soon after his brief face-off against Kashimo. Sukuna’s true form was revealed to be his four-armed figure with an additional mouth on his stomach.

This reveal was followed by mentions of how Sukuna was the “perfect sorcerer” because his multiple sets of arms and mouths allowed him to cast multiple cursed techniques simultaneously while also engaging in conventional combat.

This solidified that Sukuna was predestined to be the strongest, with almost every essential attribute in his favor. Even his cursed technique was a tool made for combat. Gojo’s situation is markedly different.

Although he was born with the Infinity Technique and the Six Eyes, making him overpowered by default, he was not initially anywhere near Special Grade or his final power level during his early years.

Gojo achieved an understanding of the reverse cursed technique soon after his enlightenment and continued to work hard on automating his infinity barrier along with the reverse cursed technique that keeps his brain intact.

Satoru Gojo is arguably one of the very few members of the Gojo clan who reached power levels similar to Sukuna, with the possibility that he is the strongest Gojo to ever exist. Satoru Gojo’s confidence in disposing of Mahoraga with a single Hollow Purple makes it clear that he is much stronger than previous members of his clan, as it was mentioned that one of these members died to Mahoraga.

The Gojo vs. Sukuna fight provides yet another proof of Gojo embodying hard work and Sukuna embodying talent. Gojo was the first to use the reverse cursed technique to heal his burnt-out domain expansion, a process that can be attributed to his years of experience constantly using the reverse cursed technique on his brain.

However, Sukuna managed to replicate this process immediately after learning about it, further solidifying his raw talent and intellect. There have been multiple instances of Sukuna being called the “perfect being” for sorcery, but similar accolades have not been mentioned for Gojo.

All of this suggests that Sukuna was born to be the perfect and strongest sorcerer, while Gojo had to work to achieve his status as the strongest sorcerer.

Final Thoughts

The actual reason behind Sukuna having multiple sets of arms and mouths has yet to be completely revealed, and the lack of Sukuna's backstory further complicates the entire debate. It is entirely possible that future chapters of the series will shift into a flashback and reveal the actual origins of Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264 will be released on July 28, 2024, and will be available for reading on Shueisha's MANGA Plus platform.
