Jujutsu Kaisen may have told Yuji his family secrets already, and it has to do with Gojo

In the latest release of author and illustrator Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga series, fans saw the Shinjuku Showdown arc all but concluded with Ryomen Sukuna’s death. That, in turn, set up the series for the beginning of its ultimate end, with the rest of chapter 268 getting ready for this inevitability by wrapping up some long standing loose threads.

One way in which Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268 went about this was via Satoru Gojo leaving letters behind for Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki to read. Both of their letters were about their families, with Gojo apologizing to Megumi for killing Toji and revealing to Nobara where her mother is and what she’s up to.

However, protagonist Yuji Itadori didn’t receive such a letter, saying he got the opportunity to talk to Gojo directly prior to his death at Sukuna’s hands. Likewise, since fans didn’t get to see this conversation, deducing what they may have spoken of has been a hot topic in the community.

Yet in truth, the answer may be right in front of readers’ eyes, and could speak to the Itadori bloodline’s presence in the world of sorcery in a significant way.

Jujutsu Kaisen may not have told fans, but almost certainly revealed to Yuji the Itadori clan’s history

With both Megumi and Nobara’s letters being about their families, it’s likely that Yuji’s discussion with Gojo also revolved around the Itadori family.

While it’s true that all of Yuji’s known family members are dead, this doesn’t necessarily mean that there was nothing for him to discuss with Gojo on the subject. More specifically, it’s likely that Gojo confirmed that the Itadori bloodline had presence in the world of sorcery in some way, shape, or form.

This is heavily supported by the fact that Yuji’s father Jin is the reincarnation of Sukuna’s twin brother, whom he ate in the womb before the pair were born. While the manga never explicitly states this, it can then be inferred that the Itadori bloodline descends from Sukuna’s own in some way given typical reincarnation tropes. At the very least, it suggests that the Itadori bloodline is involved with Jujutsu Kaisen’s world of sorcery to some degree.

Considering that, this is almost certainly what Gojo spoke to Yuji about: the Itadori family’s role in the history of sorcery. The family’s involvement in the world of sorcery is something which has also been theorized on many times before.

Most notably, one fan theory argued that Wasuke Itadori was not only a member of the Zen’in clan, but either the former 25th or 24th head of the Zen’in family.

Gojo specifically discussing family in his letters to Megumi and Nobara in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268 surely isn't a coincidence

While the credibility of a fan theory is obviously subjective from person to person, what’s clear is that there is evidence in the story which can be interpreted as setting up such a plotline. In turn, this adds further credibility to the idea that Gojo and Yuji spoke of the Itadori family’s history in sorcery by emphasizing prior setup for such a plotline in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Such a reveal would also deepen the significance of Yuji moving past his cog in the machine mentality, breaking out of a cycle which his ancestors could not. While some may argue this will minimize Yuji’s feats, it realistically has no impact unless the Itadori bloodline is revealed as particularly special.

With that in mind, it seems likely that Yuji and Gojo’s discussion did revolve around his family, and may have even revealed the Itadori bloodline’s role in sorcery’s history.
