The Jujutsu Kaisen manga has been focusing on Sukuna and his gauntlet run since chapter 222. While the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight was the biggest highlight of the manga, the current battle between Sukuna and the sorcerers has been dragged out too far, giving rise to the possibility of a timeout.
Gege might end the Sukuna vs. Sorcerer battle as it is and enter a new phase of the manga that might focus on Sukuna becoming the merger entity. While there are many other plot points that need to be addressed, a timeout in the Sukuna fight seems like an appropriate story decision since it would give Gege a chance to explore Megumi and his role against Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna might trigger the merger and enter the next phase of the fight
The Sukuna vs. Sorcerers fight has introduced many new plot points that are yet to have a payoff. Yuji was recently revealed to be Sukuna's nephew, with Yuji's father being a reincarnation of Sukuna's brother, whom he ate before his actual birth. While this plot point was built up as a significant reveal, it hasn't had a substantial payoff or relevance in the story so far.
This, along with the plot point revolving around Kenjaku's cryptic dialogue mentioning how his dreams will be realized, hasn't been addressed in the story. It is known that Kenjaku and Sukuna had a deal completed before the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight.
It is also known that Kenjaku handed over the authority of the merger to Sukuna. The "Sukuna vs. Sorcerers" fight may end in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264, with Sukuna initiating the merger as a last-ditch effort. However, it is also possible that Sukuna might get scraped away from Megumi and enter the merger that way.
The fight might continue with the survivors vs. the entity resulting from the merger. The Sukuna fight has been going on for too long, to the point many fans have expressed how the entire fight feels dragged and overdone. While Gege has confirmed that the current arc is the final arc of the manga, the fight may enter its final phase, with Sukuna evolving into a new form as the "merger."
There is also the fact that Hakari hasn't yet faced Sukuna since he has been keeping Uraume busy since chapter 237. However, the recent chapters had panels showing that Hakari was in a ragged condition while Uraume suffered little to no damage. This further means that Uraume is a wild card that can affect the battle, especially since Sukuna is currently in his weakest state.
Other than that, many plot points require addressing. Yuta consuming Kenjaku and taking his technique to enable himself to possess Gojo's body and fight Sukuna is inarguably one of the major dividing events to happen in the manga recently. But this reveal was built up with much uncertainty around the overlapping time limit of Yuta's copy technique and Kenjaku's body-hopping technique.
This essentially gave rise to hope among the Gojo fans for Gojo's return since such overlapping of intricate cursed techniques last happened in the Shibuya Incident arc, resulting in the revival of Toji Fushiguro.
The actual fate of Yuta is also yet to be revealed, so it is possible that the Sukuna fight ends in the next chapter or it somehow enters a timeout due to Sukuna starting the merger. The brief timeout might be used to address the numerous plot points Gege has laid out during the fight.
