Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260 spoilers surfaced on Thursday, teasing a possible return of Gojo Satoru in a spectacular manner. However, a theory circulating on X suggests that it might not be Gojo but rather his ancestor, Michizane Sugawara. Towards the chapter's conclusion, Sukuna was stopped from casting his Domain by a mysterious silhouette.
This figure has sparked speculation that it could be Gojo's vengeful ancestor, Sugawara. Considering Kenjaku has reincarnated sorcerers from eras past, it is not far-fetched that such a theory has been formulated. While fans have long awaited the white-haired sorcerer's return, they may be in for an even more significant revelation.

Jujutsu Kaisen theory suggests Sukuna's next opponent to be Gojo's vengeful ancestor, Michizane Sugawara
In the Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260 spoilers, the panel strongly suggests that Gege Akutami has finally answered fans' calls for the return of Gojo Satoru. The mysterious figure resembles Gojo very closely, and even the narrator states, "The one he buried with his own hands...the Ghost of the Strongest."
Everything hints at a possible Gojo return. However, an intriguing theory on X proposes an alternative perspective. X user @ABHISHE56368211 suggests that instead of Gojo, this mysterious figure could be his ancestor, Michizane Sugawara.
For context, Michizane Sugawara was first mentioned in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 as Gojo and Yuta Okkotsu's distant relative. He was a big shot in the Jujutsu world and one of the Big Three Vengeful Spirits. This theory states that the silhouette that appeared is Michizane Sugawara rather than Gojo, taking the narrator's words, "The one he buried with his own hands...the Ghost of the Strongest," differently.
Referring to when Hajime Kashimo fought Sukuna, the latter called Kashimo a "ghost" as well. In that sense, "ghost" would likely refer to a reincarnated entity. This ties into the story about the Culling Games, as Kenjaku brought back powerful sorcerers from eras long past.
Among those reincarnated, it is possible that Michizane Sugawara too was recalled or brought back. Nothing was seen of him, likely because he may have chosen to keep his whereabouts largely a secret until now.
As per Jujutsu Kaisen lore, the Big Three Vengeful Spirits have existed since the Heian Era, aka the Golden Age of Jujutsu. They gained repute due to the fear they instilled in humans after becoming Curses, and their evil deeds. Each Curse was incredibly powerful and could rival Sukuna.
It is said that they fled to escape Sukuna and went into hiding along with other Special Grades, but later figured they grew in strength to match the Demon King himself. The question thus arises - Why would Michizane Sugawara target Sukuna now? There are several plausible reasons for this.
Firstly, the Vengeful Spirits will remain stationary unless something "major" occurs, upon which they could unleash their might. This "major" event might likely be the Tengen-Humanity Merger that Kenjaku wanted. With Sukuna in Megumi's body and Megumi holding the power to begin the merger, Sukuna would thus become a target for the Spirits wanting to prevent it entirely.
Secondly, although distant, Gojo and Sugawara are related. Moreover, it has been confirmed in the series that the latter also possessed Six Eyes. Sukuna killing Gojo might have one of two or both effects on Sugawara - Intrigued, as to who could kill a Six Eyes or Angry, that someone brutally dispatched their descendent. The second emotion is justifiable since Gojo was the first in 400 years to be born with both Six Eyes and Limitless.
Final thoughts
The theory proposed by the user from X does sound plausible. After all, there is hardly anyone who could make Ryomen Sukuna nervous. Moreover, this theory is backed up by instances such as the existence of the Vengeful Spirits and the reference to Kashimo as a "ghost."
For the time being, it seems like another one of Akutami's mind-bending twists. Chapter 260 could decide the Demon King's fate once and for all. If it really is Gojo, then Shoko Ieiri and Ui Ui came in clutch at the perfect time. Alternatively, if it is Sugawara, then the introduction of a new face will be undoubtedly intriguing.
