The recent chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen steered away from Yuji and his conflict with Sukuna. However, chapter 263 brought the focus back to Todo and Yuji while reaffirming fan theories about how Yuta's Hollow Purple wouldn't be much use against Sukuna.
Along with Yuta's defeat, chapter 263 revealed that Yuji had used a binding vow specifically targeting Sukuna. Given his determination to defeat Sukuna and save Megumi, many fans have started wondering just how far Yuji would go.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji might give up his life to save Megumi
Yuji has been established as a "savior" since the beginning of the story. Even his introduction was done via his breaking through his school windows to save one of his friends from being consumed by a curse. Yuji's motivation behind trying to save people stems from his genuinely simpleminded nature, encouraged by the dying words of his grandfather, who was his only parental figure for most of his life.
Since the beginning of the Sukuna fight, Yuji has been pushing his limits by using the Reverse Cursed Technique numerous times while engaging in lethal close combat against Sukuna. Throughout the entire fight, Yuji repeatedly mentions how he wants to save Megumi.
Even though Yuji directly reached Megumi's soul, Megumi had fully given up on life after witnessing the atrocities that Sukuna committed while possessing his body. But even after learning of Megumi's despair, Yuji went even further in his fight against Sukuna.
Yuji went far enough to enter a binding vow to strengthen his strikes, specifically against the barrier between Sukuna and Megumi's soul, forcing Sukuna to start completely avoiding his strikes. The binding vow system works very similarly to the concept of equivalent exchange from Fullmetal Alchemist and nen from Hunter x Hunter.
It is very much possible that Yuji's binding vow required a very severe sacrifice. Given that Yuji has been consistently trying to sacrifice himself in his effort to take down Sukuna, it is even possible that he gives up his life as a condition for yet another binding vow to get Megumi back from Sukuna.
While some might interpret his actions as having a "savior" complex, Yuji is simply fulfilling his duty as a sorcerer and a normal human being. He fought the bully group in the flashback during middle school, which can be seen as helping others. This trait came to light when Higuruma was straying from his path, and Yuji pulled him back to reality, helping him realize his mistake.
Final thoughts
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 263 will be officially released on July 14, 2024, and will be available for reading on Shueisha's MANGAPlus platform. Although the chapter ends with Yuji and Todo cornering Sukuna right in front of a Maximum Jacob's Ladder, it is still entirely possible that Sukuna comes out completely unscathed and engages Yuji in hand-to-hand combat again.
