Jujutsu Kaisen epilogue was released alongside the final volume on December 25, 2024. The epilogue saw a focus on some characters and revealed their after-stories post the series finale. Even though the protagonist didn't receive a focus in the epilogue, he received a spotlight in Ozawa's after-story. This focus was a throwback to Wasuke's last advice to Itadori Yuji.

After a tantrum between the grandson and grandfather, Wasuke advised Itadori to not end up like him. He might be referring to some regret in the past when Wasuke didn't help someone. This might mirror Sukuna's story, as he stayed alone his whole life as the strongest and also died alone. Yuji returning home and meeting his friend hinted that the protagonist didn't end up like his grandfather.

Jujutsu Kaisen episode 1 focused on Itadori Yuji's days as a high school student and a normal boy. After finishing his club activities, the protagonist visited his grandfather, Wasuke Itadori, who was grumpy about his grandson visiting him.

After throwing a tantrum, Wasuke advised his grandson to help others as he was strong. His advice ended with telling Itadori to not end up like his grandfather. A few hours after this conversation, Wasuke passed away, leaving Itadori teary-eyed.

A key aspect of his last conversation with Itadori was how he regretted something from the past (when he told Itadori to not end up like him). These regrets might be related to Wasuke's young life where he did something that could be the reason why he was left alone on his deathbed.

Maybe Wasuke never gave his companions the place they deserved due to which everyone left him. This might also mirror Ryomen Sukuna's life as the strongest sorcerer who stayed alone his whole life and died alone. Fortunately, the epilogue proved that Itadori took his grandfather's advice the right way.

In Ozawa's epilogue in Jujutsu Kaisen final volume, Itadori returned to Sendai City to take care of Wasuke's house. Fortunately, he met Ozawa during this visit and these two tagged along for a while. While this meeting might not mean much, it more or less proved that Itadori wasn't like his grandfather.

Wherever he went, he was accompanied by friends. This was what Wasuke wanted his grandson to do. This also made Itadori different from Sukuna because even though the protagonist was one of the strongest, he was still surrounded by good people.

Final thoughts

Jujutsu Kaisen episode/chapter 1 was titled Ryomen Sukuna, the same installment where Wasuke's last moments were showcased. So, the link between the protagonist's grandfather and the King of Curses was already established from the start of the series.

While there is no telling whether Wasuke was a sorcerer in his prime, he might be a strong person (just like Itadori) who couldn't give his companions enough care. However, Itadori beat every wrongdoing his grandfather did and didn't end up like Wasuke.
