Before Gojo Satoru (Yuta) entered the last fight against Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuji and the King of Curses were having a heated battle. This was because the protagonist had just awakened his cursed technique and was ready to fight, toe-to-toe, with the central antagonist.

Not only this, but the protagonist also nurtured his cursed energy manipulation and learned a bunch of other techniques, thus becoming a worthy opponent of the King of Curses, who had killed every sorcerer he fought thus far.

But in the process of becoming a worthy opponent to Sukuna, Itadori forgot to uphold his ideology as a sane being and became similar to Sukuna. As Itadori had to learn Blood Manipulation in a hurry, the only method left for him was to eat the Death Paintings. As Itadori's origins are similar to these Death Painting, it could be considered that he ate his twin brothers, similar to what Sukuna did.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Exploring why Itadori had to become Sukuna to beat him

During the last fight against Sukuna, after the demise of Gojo Satoru, Itadori was being used as a plaything by the King of Curses. The latter kept mocking the protagonist for not saving his loved ones. But everything changed once Itadori started taking things seriously.

Hitting Sukuna with a continuous barrage of Black Flash techniques, Itadori awakened his cursed technique, Shrine, which was the same as the King of Curses. The only difference between Itadori's Shrine and Sukuna's Shrine is that the Itadori's is immature and has to be nurtured more.

But this wasn't the only thing up Itadori's sleeve. He also had some other cursed techniques in his pocket, out of which Blood Manipulation and RCT he had already and Simple Domain he displayed when Sukuna expanded his domain. But how did he attain these techniques in such a short amount of time?

Itadori used Ui Ui's cursed technique to switch bodies with Yuta and Kusakabe to get a grip on the Simple Domain and RCT. To learn Blood Manipulation, Itadori had to understand the concept of the cursed technique but could not.

So, as an alternative way, he consumed the remaining Death Paintings, other than Choso. This helped Itadori awaken Blood Manipulation so he could compensate for his lost blood during battle. But by doing this, Itadori sacrificed something, which made him no better than the central antagonist.

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 257, Sukuna revealed he consumed his twin brother when both of them were inside the womb of their mother. Sukuna did this act because his mother was malnourished when she was pregnant with the King of Curses and his twin.

Final thoughts

The ongoing battle upholds no barrier to being a human being or a cursed spirit. The strongest sorcerer, Gojo Satoru, couldn't win against the King of Curses. This made it clear the sorcerers needed more than just sane thoughts to defeat the central antagonist.

Yuta sacrificed his sanity and transferred his soul to Gojo Satoru's body to win against Sukuna. Itadori doing the same could be the same is a sign that the last fight is not a battle of ideologies, but a battle to win at all costs.
