Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna was only able to save Megumi in Shibuya for one reason, and it makes perfect sense

Jujutsu Kaisen reached a high point during the Shibuya Incident arc and the Sukuna vs. Mahoraga fight helped, although it also presented a very unique situation— that of the former saving Megumi Fushiguro. Not because Sukuna wanted to save Megumi, which the manga has already explained, but rather the way he did it to save him through the Reverse Cursed Technique projection.

This was one of the first times in Jujutsu Kaisen where it was shown that Reverse Cursed Technique projection can kill Curses with one shot, which helped Sukuna in his desire to save Megumi against Mahoraga. There is an argument to be made that Sukuna, a notoriously selfish individual, being able to heal others is a plothole or plot convenience, but it could also be due to his disdain for Curses.

Explaining why Sukuna knows Reverse Cursed Technique projection in Jujutsu Kaisen and how it fits with his character

As Megumi Fushiguro was cornered during the events of the Shibuya Incident arc, he summoned Mahoraga out of desperation and the latter began to cause chaos. Sukuna saved Megumi because he wanted to take over his body later, as shown in the manga, so his actions there make sense.

However, fans wonder why such a selfish and vicious character can use the Reverse Cursed Technique projection, which means that he can heal others.

Potentially, the most realistic reason is that author Gege Akutami wanted Sukuna to save Megumi, so the King of Curses needed to have that ability, although fans can speculate. For example, this was one of the battles where it was stated that the Reverse Cursed Technique projection can destroy Curses in one shot, which could lead to a more logical explanation for Sukuna's knowledge of said ability.

Sukuna has shown disdain for Curses throughout the series, as seen during his encounters with Mahito where the former deemed the latter as a "mere Curse". In that regard, there is a good chance that Sukuna, the strongest sorcerer in history, learned the Reverse Cursed Technique projection as a way to get rid of Curses without having any major problems.

Sukuna's interest in Megumi

Most anime-only Jujutsu Kaisen fans might not be aware of Sukuna's motivation to keep an interest in Megumi Fushiguro but the real reason is because of his abilities. As a member of the Zen'in clan, Megumi can summon the Shikigami, which is a Cursed Technique that the King of Curses found useful and practical.

Therefore, Sukuna was plotting for Yuji Itadori to keep eating the former's fingers, growing stronger, and eventually forcing Megumi to eat one, thus allowing him to take over the latter's body. It was in Megumi's body that Sukuna was able to defeat and kill Satoru Gojo, with Shikigami such as Mahoraga playing a major role in their now-iconic battle in the manga.

Final thoughts

It is likely that Sukuna knows how to use the Reverse Cursed Technique projection in Jujutsu Kaisen because Akutami wanted him to save Megumi. However, there could be a chance that Sukuna learned this ability to defeat Curses without putting in much effort.
