Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji learned Domain Expansion from a teacher, but it wasn't Gojo

Jujutsu Kaisen has finally given fans what they have been pining for since what feels like forever. The most recent chapter, i.e., chapter 264, ends on a dizzying high with protagonist Yuji Itadori revealing his Domain at long last.

Ever since Domain Expansion as a technique was introduced, speculation kept building around what Yuji's Domain Expansion would be. As the series progressed, the pink-haired boy grew and developed, picking up Jujutsu sorcery techniques at an impressive pace.

The only thing he seemingly lacked was the pinnacle of Jujutsu, which is Domain Expansion. Now, at probably the important bit of the Shinjuku Showdown, Yuji has revealed his trump card. However, as per the chapter, it was not Gojo Satoru but Atsuya Kusakabe who helped him achieve it.

Not Gojo, but rather the other teacher at Jujutsu High, Kusakabe, was the one to tutor Yuji, ultimately allowing him to unlock his Domain Expansion. Fans will recall that Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 222 confirmed that the teenager possessed a Soul Swapping Technique that enabled him to switch bodies.

During the period before the Shinjuku Showdown, Yuji was training hard to face Ryomen Sukuna. He trained under Kusakabe, polishing his hand-to-hand combat skills and learning about Simple Domain techniques.

It is already a fact that despite not having a Cursed Technique, Kusakabe has steeled himself by mastering Sword Techniques and Simple Domains. Thus, in Gojo's absence, he was the perfect mentor for Yuji.

Gojo's teachings

Not to be misunderstood, but even Gojo's instruction had a hand in Yuji's Domain Expansion moment. When he fought Jogo, Gojo casually fetched Yuji to witness his fight with the Disaster Curse. It was more a one-sided showcase than a battle, but his demonstration was crucial.

As both sorcerers were trapped in Jogo's Domain, Gojo explained to Yuji what a Domain was and its features, such as its guaranteed-hit effect and the buffs it grants its user, like in a video game. He also showed the boy a Domain battle, i.e., expanding his own Domain within Jogo's. This, too, contributed to the boy's understanding of such a high-level technique, evident from the flashback.

After everything was said and done, Yuji finally chose to use his Domain Expansion, which will likely be vital in deciding the outcome of this final battle. Since the start of the battle, Sukuna has somehow possessed a counter for whatever was thrown at him. Even in the unlikeliest of cases, he had something prepared to hit back with.

Even now, utilizing two consecutive Black Flashes has replenished Sukuna's Reverse Cursed Technique. But that might not be so useful with Yuji using Domain Expansion. As seen in the chapter, the pair have been transported to an unknown station with Sukuna back in his Yuji body form.

The characteristics of Yuji's Domain are yet unknown, but it might just be an old-fashioned one-on-one brawl with little to no Cursed Energy or showy techniques. This seems plausible given that this is how Yuji began his journey, with nothing but his fists and sheer physical might.
