Kagurabachi chapter 39 was released on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 12 am JST in Weekly Shonen Jump issue #31. The chapter continued Chihiro Rokuhira and Hakuri Sazanami's collaborative battle against Kyora Sazanami.

The protagonist demonstrated his remarkable genius to overwhelm Kyora, but the latter's conviction to save the auction propelled him to take drastic measures.

Previously in Kagurabachi, Chihiro Rokuhira entered Kyora's Storehouse with Hakuri's help and recovered his blade, Enten. Utilizing his presence of mind, he imbued his Spirit Energy with prisoners so that Hakuri could transfer them. This led to Kyora moving up the auction's proceedings.

Kagurabachi chapter 39, titled Surpass!, begins with Hakuri transferring the prisoners from Kyora Sazanami's Storehouse to outside. Hinao, who is with Char and Mr. Inazuma in the car, wonders whether those people are up for the auction. Char asks Inazuma whether he sees his elder sister among the rescued.

Following that, Kagurabachi chapter 39 shifts to Chihiro vs. Kyora. The former demonstrates his Kuro: Shred, but the Sazanami head quickly creates a defensive wall to protect himself. Kyora mocks Chihiro for trying to free the prisoners, while Hakuri appears to be reaching his limits.

The young sorcerer feels his head is about to split because of the constant pressure of transferring the merchandise. According to Kagurabachi chapter 39, connecting one's mind to the subspace is incredibly hard, and overdoing it can fry their brain.

Kyora then reminds Chihiro that countless ancestors had dedicated their lives to the Rakuzaichi. He feels that the auction will reach its zenith by auctioning two Enchanted Blades. The chapter then shifts to the auction hall, where the spectators run wild, as Kyora begins the countdown for the main event.

Among the crowd, the members from the Kamunabi's Shinuchi Retrieval Squad discuss that bidding for an Enchanted Blade is a once-in-a-lifetime thing for everyone, which is why it's a historic moment. They also realize that the person on the stage is not Kyora but his preview.

One of them wonders whether the real Kyora Sazanami is engaged in a battle with Chihiro. Kagurabachi chapter 39 then shows Chihiro Rokuhira berating Kyora, for not even grieving the death of his children. However, the sorcerer makes it clear that Rakuzaichi is bigger than their lives.

Following that, Kagurabachi chapter 39 focuses on action, with Kyora vanishing the ground below Chihiro's feet and conjuring spikes out of nowhere. However, the protagonist dodges the attack with Kuro: Shred.

While evading the obstacles along the way, Chihiro realizes that he's running out of steam from the constant battles and from using Kuro: Shred. Kyora, on the other hand, feels it's the best opportunity for him to strike back, with Hakuri injured. As such, the sorcerer gains confidence in the fact that Chihiro cannot use his trump card.

The chapter continues with Chihiro's battle against Kyora and shows him using Kuro: Shred once again. However, the Sazanami head creates another wall to defend himself from multiple slash-based attacks. Suddenly, Chihiro throws his Enten at Kyora as a surprise attack.

Yet, the sorcerer remains undeterred. He deflects the sword using his own and then transfers multiple grenades at Chihiro. Kyora Sazanami feels he has killed the boy, but the Enten user quickly appears behind him. He realizes that Hakuri transferred Chihiro at the right time before the bombs went off.

Yet, with the sword in his hands, the Sazanami head remains confident. He slashes at Chihiro but realizes it's an image. Kagurabachi chapter 39 then shows the real Chihiro Rokuhira appearing in front of Kyora Sazanami to brutally slash him.

Bleeding profusely, Kyora recalls Hakuri telling him, when he was a young boy, that he would surpass him as the clan's leader. The sorcerer then furiously cries, before hiding his body below the floor. Kyora realizes he won't survive because of the fatal wound.

However, before his death, he wants to complete the Rakuzaichi. Kagurabachi chapter 39 then shifts to the auction room, where the Kamunabi members discuss the nature of the Shinuchi blade.

Normally, an Enchanted Blade is limited by their Eternal Contracts. As such, they wonder why Shinuchi has an extra layer of protection.

The Kamunabi members speculate that Shinuchi's power must be so great that even the Eternal Contract isn't enough to limit it. The chapter ends with a panel featuring Kyora, implying that he intends to use Shinuchi.
