Kagurabachi chapter 44 was released on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 12 am JST in Weekly Shonen Jump issue #36. The chapter revealed the aftermath of the Rakuzaichi auction, where Chihiro Rokuhira decided to join the Kamunabi to know more about the Shinuchi, and the words his father refused to speak about.

In the previous chapter, Chihiro and Hakuri coordinated with each other to save the remaining prisoners from Kyora Sazanami's crumbling Storehouse. On the other hand, the Sazanami clan head fought an internal battle against Shinuchi's influence. Eventually, he succumbed to his death, regretting to fulfill his duties.

Kagurabachi chapter 44: Hiyuki asks Chihiro to hand over the Enchanted Blades

Kagurabachi chapter 44, titled The Curtain Falls, kicks off with the spectators at the auction room observing Kyora Sazanami's death. They notice Chihiro on the podium, and the Shinuchi Enchanted Blade beside him. The crowd charges at Rokuhira to own the blade, without a care for their lives.

Meanwhile, the sorcerers from the Kamunabi's Shinuchi Bidding Team are glad that they could escape in time before the building crumbles. Shiba, who has an injured Hakuri on his shoulders, quickly teleports to the stage to bring back Chihiro.

He grabs the boy and uses his sorcery powers to escape from the stage, leaving everyone bewildered. After that, a huge debris falls on the spectators to end their lives.

Meanwhile, Shiba realizes that even though he grabbed Chihiro and demonstrated his powers, the boy hasn't been teleported with him. Kagurabachi chapter 44 reveals that right before Shiba demonstrated his sorcery, Chihiro was placed into Tafuku's barrier. As such, he couldn't escape with Shiba.

The chapter then shows Hiyuki Kagari stepping on Shinuchi, telling Chihiro that she wants the Enchanted Blades. On the other hand, Shiba thinks he needs to return and save Chihiro, but suddenly an explosion sets off, destroying the building.

After the explosion, Kagurabachi chapter 44 shows Tafuku and Hiyuki emerging from the building, with Chihiro on the former's back. Shiba is outside, tending to Hakuri's wounds. He notices Hiyuki holding the Shinuchi blade and asks about it.

Hiyuki tells Shiba that she has Chihiro's consent. She adds that Chihiro and she have made a deal. The Enten user assures Hakuri that it's about their next plans. Meanwhile, Chihiro enquires Hakuri about what he intends to do.

The narrative for Kagurabachi chapter 44 then delves into a flashback, where Shiba is seen telling Kyora's children (the remaining Tou members) to return home and ensure the little kids in the Sazanami household don't become like Tenri or Kyora.

Back to the present, Hakuri feels he doesn't deserve to return to the Sazanami mansion since he has become an enemy to them. On the other side, we see Yuu Inazuma reuniting with his older sister.

Chihiro reminds Hakuri that they wouldn't have saved the prisoners if it weren't for him. He adds that Hakuri gave them hope. The Sazanami sorcerer asks Chihiro if he would let him fight alongside him.

He says that he wants to keep proving the worth Chihiro has shown in him. A panel in Kagurabachi chapter 44 then shows debris falling on Kyora Sazanami's corpse. A drum beats and the narrator signals the end of Rakuzaichi after 200 years.

Kagurabachi chapter 44 delves into another flashback to reveal the conversation between Chihiro and Hiyuki. The former says that while he doesn't want to give up the blades, he feels the situation has changed.

Seeing the Shinuchi's powers, Chihiro thinks he can't let it on the loose. Moreover, he also wonders why his father never spoke about the Shinuchi. He thinks there may be some conditions that need to be fulfilled to properly use the blade.

As such, he doesn't want to take a risk, in case the blade becomes uncontrollable. Moreover, Chihiro knows that only the Kamunabi know how to seal the Shinuchi. Yet, he hesitates to give up the blade as he recalls the Hishaku's leader intending to use the blade.

While he thinks it's best to hand over the blade to the Shinuchi (for sealing purposes), it's exactly what the Hishaku want. Kagurabachi chapter 44 then shows Hiyuki asking Chihiro about his plans. The Flame Bone user thinks they need to give the blade to Kamunabi if they wish to seal it.

She also assures the boy that she won't let anyone have the blade. However, Chihiro doesn't want her to take such responsibilities. He is aware that Hiyuki's mission will be complete once the Kamunabi have the Enten under their jurisdiction.

As such, Chihiro feels there's only one solution that works for both parties. Kagurabachi chapter 44 ends with Chihiro asking the Flame Bone user to let him join the Kamunabi's forces.
