Kagurabachi chapter 54 was released on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 12 am JST in Weekly Shonen Jump issue #47. The chapter revealed interesting facts about the Hishaku and saw the organization deploy its strong forces to the Senkutsuji Temple to kill Samura and gain one Enchanted Blade's possession.

In the previous chapter, Hiruhiko tried to corner Chihiro Rokuhira by entrapping innocent bystanders with his Origami sorcery. He also felt Chihiro shouldn't be concerned about saving others, being a killer himself. Although the Enten user had embraced the path of vengeance, he didn't want to cause others harm. As such, he demonstrated his Enchanted Blade's powers and defeated Yura.

Kagurabachi chapter 54: Yura chalks out his plan over a phone call and puts high hopes on Hiruhiko

Kagurabachi chapter 54, titled Friendship, begins with Yura acknowledging that he has a basic idea about the Kamunabi's strategy. The Hishaku leader feels the organization must be shoring up their battle prowess at every Sanzos in anticipation of an attack.

He also speculates that if the Kamunabi are willing to add Chihiro Rokuhira as part of their forces, they must really be stretched thin. On the other hand, Yura is concerned about Togo Shiba, whose location he hasn't been able to pinpoint. Kagurabachi chapter 54 reveals that the Hishaku had a rough time with Shiba three years ago as well.

Meanwhile, Yura recalls that the Kamunabi haven't diverted their manpower from their Tokyo HQ. The Hishaku leader feels it must be to protect the Sword Master, i.e., Shinuchi's contract bearer, whom they have been harboring somewhere in Tokyo.

Yura, who is seen in a playground riding on a spring horse, tells one of his subordinates that they must require at least one Enchanted Blade to infiltrate the Kamunabi's ironclad defense. The sorcerer on the other side of the call feels everything must be hinging on killing a contracted sword-bearer.

The sorcerer asks Yura whether entrusting Hiruhiko with such an important task is wise. The next panel in Kagurabachi chapter 45 shows Yura reading a message from Hiruhiko on his phone, where the sorcerer has informed the leader about his escapade to the theatre.

Yura thinks it's fine since Hiruhiko is still controlling the troops. He feels it's a good opportunity for the sorcerer, who has invaluable battle gifts. While Hiruhiko's sorcery isn't powerful at any rate, he has evolved it to a formidable level. Yura feels the boy will master an Enchanted Blade quickly.

Yet, Kagurabachi chapter 54 reveals that Hiruhiko is still psychologically immature. That said, the Hishaku leader thinks it's good for the boy to interact with Chihiro Rokuhira before obtaining an Enchanted Blade. The other person on the call asks Yura what if Hiruhiko fails.

The Hishaku leader assures him he has several backup plans, including their trump card. He feels they need not stress, as they have set things up nicely. Yura knows it's fine for Hiruhiko to lose once and learn because it will eventually help him in good stead.

After Yura's conversation with the unnamed Hishaku sorcerer, Kagurabachi chapter 54 switches to Chihiro Rokuhira, who interrogates Hiruhiko. The sorcerer still can't believe how Chihiro could defeat him since everything went black after the Enten user took the onslaught of his cranes head-on.

When Hiruhiko asks him about it, Chihiro reveals that he played Hiruhiko's game against him. Chihiro filled the space with Kuro to detect Hiruhiko's position as they took over the sorcerer's visual field. Hiruhiko then wonders why Chihiro let the cranes slash him.

According to Kagurabachi chapter 54, then Enten users observed from the battle that Hiruhiko doesn't always make his papers into cranes. He needs to have them within his reach to fold them. Moreover, he can only use the move once every interval. Additionally, the Enten user observed that once those cranes attack someone, they no longer work a second time.

Chihiro wanted to ensure that Hiruhiko didn't have spare cranes to attack the bystanders. That's why he let those cranes use themselves up. Chihiro Rokuhira's ideology in Kagruabachi chapter 54 goes above Hiruhiko's head. He can't fathom why the sorcerer would go to such an extent to save them.

He feels that, in the end, there's nothing common between them as they are both killers. However, Chihiro feels that as long as the innocents are safe, he doesn't care what they think about him. Although he acknowledges that killing is a horrible act, he feels not all killing is the same.

Hiruhiko still feels he and Chihiro are the same. However, the Enten user reminds him that they aren't, and that's why they seek to kill each other. Kagurabachi chapter 54 then features a panel where Hiruhiko goes through an enlightenment. He feels the reason why he fights with Chihiro must be a sign of friendship.

Suddenly, he blurts out crucial information on Hishaku and their plan. According to Hiruhiko in Kagurabachi chapter 54, Hishaku is a small organization of ten sorcerers working under the helm of Yura. Their current plan is to eliminate the contracted sword bearers by attacking their fortresses.

They have hired 68 outside sorcerers for the mission and secured 34 Datenseki weapons. Hiruhiko has total command over the forces for the task, including the Hishaku members. Elsewhere in Kagurabachi chapter 54, Yura is intrigued by a sudden change in plans.

He feels it's an interesting move and yet a gamble. Apparently, Hiruhiko has deployed a bulk of sorcerers in the Senkutsuji temple. Yura feels Hiruhiko is extremely resistant to using the organization's trump card.

Kagurabachi chapter 54: Samura confronts the Hishaku sorcerer with Tree sorcery skills at Senkutsuji temple

Kagurabachi chapter 54 then changes the location to the Senkutsuj temple, where multiple sorcerers from Hishaku infiltrate. The monks and the other guards at the temple inform Samura about the enemy force's sudden surge. Suddenly, tree roots engulf the Senkutsuji temple.

Meanwhile, a panel reveals that Hiruhiko has sent all of Hishaku's fighting power to Senkutsuji for personal reasons. He also uses his origami papers to bring two Enchanted Blades, Tobimune and Kumeyuri.

Hiruhiko feels he and Chihiro will soon be playing on equal footing. Elsewhere in the Senkutsiji temple, the Kamunabi elite squad feels they don't have enough time before Hakuri regains his power.

On the other hand, Samura notices a sorcerer approaching. It's the same as Hishaku Sorcerer from the first chapter. Kagurabachi chapter 54 ends with Samura preparing to take down the Hishaku sorcerer with tree sorcery powers.

Conclusion

Kagurabachi chapter 54 nicely sets up the arc, with Samura and Uruha's dating hanging in the balance. The chapter has made it evident that Hiruhiko has some personal angst against the personnel in Senkutsji.

Perhaps he knows Samura from before and wishes to seek revenge. There's another possibility that he may want to acquire the Tobimune blade. At any rate, Hishaku has made a gamble, and it may just pay off for the narrative purposes.
