Kagurabachi chapter 55: The Masumi prepare to evacuate Hakuri and Uruha
Chapter 55 of Kagurabachi, titled Fight Alongside, opens in a tense warehouse scene where the Masumi members try to convince Hakuri to rest after he exhausted his spirit energy. One of the Masumi tells him that he needs at least thirty minutes of rest to use his sorcery again safely, but only ten minutes have passed, leaving twenty minutes until he can wield his powers without risking brain damage, or worse, death.
In the midst of this, Chihiro Rokuhira contacts Hakuri with the alarming news that the Hishaku is going for an all-out assault on the Senkutsuji temple. Uruha appears visibly concerned, while the Masumi prepare an evacuation plan for both Hakuri and Uruha through an emergency exit.
Simultaneously, they also prepare to support Samura in his ongoing battle against Hishaku’s reinforcements. Wasting no time, the Masumi wake their commander, who has the appearance of a young boy resembling a child version of Samura. The young-looking commander grumbles, expressing his desire to sleep more as he is still “a growing boy,” but he wakes up, lighting a cigarette to prepare for the fight ahead.
Kagurabachi chapter 55: The Makizumi comes to the assistance of Samura to take down the Hishaku sorcerers
The scene then shifts to Samura, a blind swordsman, locked in fierce combat with Hishaku sorcerers. Despite his blindness, he keenly senses that his opponents are using explosion sounds and gunpowder smoke to cloud his senses.
A Hishaku sorcerer, impressed by Samura’s ability to see through their tricks, watches as Samura swiftly cuts down several assassins. Changing tactics, the sorcerer throws pine trees at him, believing that objects without any ill-intent would catch Samura off-guard.
Meanwhile, Uruha, hearing the echoing explosions, realizes that the sound and smoke are meant to counter Samura’s echolocation, through which he perceives enemies via sound, smell, and hostile intent. Uruha expresses a desire to help Samura but worries that the scent of their approach might disorient the swordsman and have irreversible consequences. The Masumi commander curtly orders them to not worry about Samura as they're in charge of his safety.
Uruha struggles to understand how the Masumi’s assistance would benefit Samura, especially with the overpowering gunpowder odor masking familiar scents, further complicating Samura's echolocation.
Fuura, one of the temple monks, explains that the elite Masumi squad members are exceptionally skilled in ninjutsu and stealth. They possess the rare ability to completely erase their scent, sound, and killing intent, allowing them to blend seamlessly into the battlefield and avoid confusing Samura. Fuura reveals that only Samura’s elite guard, the Makizumi, can fight effectively at his side.
Kagurabachi chapter 55: Hakuri activates his sorcery powers once again to take down the incoming Hishaku sorcerers
Just as Hakuri and Uruha attempt to escape, a Datenseki-infused sorcerer breaches the warehouse, launching a sudden ambush.
Elsewhere, the Makizumi warriors grapple with dwindling numbers and discuss the challenge of eliminating every Hishaku assassin. They voice a hope for the aid of just one more sorcerer to keep pace in the battle. Their wish seems to materialize as Uruha and Hakuri burst onto the battlefield.
Despite being unable to mask their sound, smell, or hostile energies, Uruha and Hakuri have no choice but to press on. Uruha employs his Iai sword techniques to stand beside Samura, who looks mildly annoyed by the interference.
One of the Masumi members considers this a good opportunity to formulate an escape plan for the two sword bearers and Hakuri, believing it ideal to let Hishaku deplete their Datenseki stones. However, Hakuri is determined to stand and fight alongside the others, regardless of the risks. In a powerful finale, Hakuri Sazanami activates his sorcery powers once more, committing to battle alongside the contracted sword bearers.
