Kagurabachi chapter 56: Samura vs. Hishaku continues as Makizumi's past is revealed

Kagurabachi chapter 56, titled Daybreak, begins with Hakuri Sazanami risking his life to activate his sorcery powers to help the contract sword bearers. Hakuri knows he's the only one who hasn't put his life on the line. The sorcerer plans to touch Samura or Uruha to register them in his Storehouse. However, as soon as he activates his powers, he loses consciousness again.

One of the Makizumi members feels it's fine since they need Hakuri to regain his actual strength. For the time being, she confronts the Hishaku's assassins in front and helps Samura. Meanwhile, the Hishaku charge at Samura and the Makizumi relentlessly. Some of the assassins even activate their Datenseki stones and move like possessed zombies.

The Makizumis are cornered, as the Hishaku's sheer number overpowers them. One of them feels they need at least one of the contracted sword bearers to help them. Just then, Kagurabachi chapter 56 reveals the backstory of Makizumi. According to the chapter, the Makizumi are a family of Ninja whose existence goes centuries back.

In every generation, the Makizumi choose their master and dedicate themselves to serving them as tools. In the Seitei War, the Makizumi served the organization that later became the Kamunabi. Nearly all the members sacrificed their lives while carrying out their duty.

Yet, their descendants continued to serve the Kamunabi even after the war. Three years earlier, the Makuzumi chose Samura as their master even though they didn't have a deep connection with him. Kagurabachi chapter 56 reveals that the guardians of the Fortresses (sanzos) are selected based on the compatibility of the sword bearers.

Only the Makizumi were suited to guard Samura. However, the blind swordsman detested how he was pampered by them. The Makizumi members told Samura that they existed as tools for him. Yet, that's where the blind swordsman had a problem. He sternly told them that if they must live at the Senkutsuji Temple, they should start imposing on each other.

Kagurabachi chapter 56: Hakuri retrieves Tobimune for Samura

After the flashback, the narrative for Kagurabachi chapter 56 returns to the present, where Samura rouses the Makizumi's spirits. Meanwhile, Uruha feels the blind swordsman won't allow them to transport him to a safe location. At the same time, he fights some enemies.

The main Hishaku sorcerer at the scene realizes that the Senkutsuji temple will collapse soon. Meanwhile, Hishaku's clever strategy overwhelms Samura's senses, leaving him only to follow a trail of bloodlust. The blind sorcerer is confused as that bloodlust is from none other than Uruha.

A mini flashback in Kagurabachi chapter 56 reveals that Uruha planned to guide Samura with his bloodlust to the Makizumi's transportable mandala. He knew the swordsman wouldn't relent no matter what. Uruha apologizes to Samura, as the female Makizumi member transports them to a safe location.

After being transported outside, Samura tries to return to the Senkutsuji temple. However, Uruha stops him and reminds him that they can't afford to lose their lives, which are already heavy with burden. The blind swordsman doesn't listen to Uruha's words and almost refutes them.

Samura and Uruha's exchange is cut short by Hakuri Sazanami, who is also transported outside. He grabs Samura's hand and activates his sorcery, with extreme fatigue. Kagurabachi chapter 56 then shows Hakuri Sazanami retrieving the Tobimune Enchanted Blade.

Samura demonstrates the Enchanted Blade's Crow ability to cut down a large number of Hishaku assassins. The blade's power engulfs the enemies with crow's feathers, which cuts them indiscriminately. Kagurabachi chapter 56 ends with Samura telling the Makizumi that they are fired.

Kagurabachi chapter 56 proved once again Takeru Hokazono's mastery as an artist and storyteller. The chapter dropped massive lore surrounding the Makizumi and revealed a fraction of the Tobimune Enchanted Blade's power.

According to the chapter, the Makizumi served the organization that later came to be known as the Kamunabi. This fact has added multiple possibilities to the nature of the war. A widely circulated theory revolved around the possibility of the war having Yokais as enemies.

However, it seems the war was between multiple organizations with supernatural abilities. It remains to be seen whether Takeru Hokazono drops more hints about the war in the next chapters. On the other hand, Kagurabachi chapter 56 finally showcased the Tobimune Enchanted Blade.

It's shocking that Hakuri was successful in retrieving the blade. Now, it remains to be seen how Hishaku can secure an Enchanted Blade since that's what the narrative is suggesting. Considering Hakuri has spent his strength to retrieve one Enchanted Blade, i.e., Tobimune, it seems unlikely for the sorcerer to retrieve Uruha's Kumeyuri Enchanted Blade.

In that case, Uruha may have a definite red flag. However, that's where Takeru Hokazono may surprise fans and show the Hishaku overpowering Samura with a cunning tactic. Thus far, it's evident that Hishaku's battle tactics lie in more strategy than brute force.

Therefore, Takeru Hokazono can shock everyone with Samura's death. From a paneling point of view, the chapter had a double spread at the end, and many broad panels, showcasing Samura and the Hishaku's battle.

However, the chapter contained a few panels of the main Hishaku sorcerer, which Takeru Hokazono copied and pasted a few times. Besides that, the art remained as fascinating as ever. Lastly, the chapter ended on a high note, creating intrigue among the audience about what's to come.
