Kagurabachi chapter 57: Samura cleans up the Hishaku reinforcements

Kagurabachi chapter 57, titled Collapse, begins with Hiruhiko realizing that the Tobimune Enchanted Blade has been retrieved. Meanwhile, at the Senkutsuji temple, Samura demonstrated the Tobimune blade's powers to overwhelm the Hishaku's reinforcements. The monks and the Makizumi marvel at the blind swordsman's powers, as he causes miraculous destruction in the blink of an eye.

The main Hishaku sorcerer is amused to see a master wielding an Enchanted Blade. After wondering about whether or not he's in trouble, the sorcerer escapes the temple. Meanwhile, Hakuri wants to retrieve the Kumeyuri blade for Uruha even though he appears quite exhausted.

The female Makizumi member reminds Hakuri that he's hallucinating from the adrenaline. Given how much blood he has been losing, the Makizumi girl thinks Hakuri shouldn't push himself further and go through immediate treatment. Additionally, she reminds him that there's no need to rush since the Hishaku's force is depleted.

As such, their next course of action should be to head to another fortress and get their wounds treated. Uruha is confident that they will get back all the Enchanted blades. One of the Makuzumi members in Kagurabachi chapter 57 then asks Samura whether he truly doesn't need bodyguards anymore, since he is armed with an Enchanted Blade.

The blind swordsman reminds them that he has already fired them. At the same time, he laments that he almost got themselves killed. He asks his comrades whether everyone is alright. Unfortunately, one of the monks named Ryo Fuura died protecting Samura aged 22.

Kagurabachi chapter 57 reveals that Ryo came to the fortress three years ago, and it was his first assignment as a guard. Samura recalls Uruha's words on how an Enchanted Blade user's life is heavy with burden. The Makizumi girl tells Samura that Ryo didn't die in vain; he valiantly fought to protect the contracted sword bearers, which is a major point. However, Samura refuses to agree. He feels it's just the beginning.

Kagurabachi chapter 57: Hiruhiko tells Chihiro about the Sword Saint and Samura's actual desire

The narrative for Kagurabachi chapter 57 switches to the theatre, where Hiruhiku says the Hishaku has failed to acquire the Tobimune. That said, he doesn't appear overtly frustrated about it. Hiruhiko knows that their failure only changes the path to their destination, which is killing the Sword Master to ensure Yura gets to wield Shinuchi.

Chihiro gets back at Hiruhiko saying the Hishaku doesn't have many options, since they won't let a single contracted sword bearer die. The Hishaku sorcerer recalls Chihiro wanting to protect the "Heroes." Suddenly, he realizes why Yura called Chihiro "Green."

Hiruhiko then asks Chihiro in Kagurabachi chapter 57 whether he knows what is generally taught in schools. Apparently, it is universally taught that the Sword Master and all the Enchanted Blade bearers are heroes, like Kunishige Rokuhira.

According to Kagurabachi chapter 57, the Sword Master led the other five wielders in protecting the people with the great power of the Enchanted Blades, and their wonderful achievements brought peace and prosperity to the country. Chihiro recalls that it's the same thing he has been taught.

Moreover, when it came to the Shinuchi and the Sword Saint, his father never clearly explained it. Everything Chihiro learned about the Shinuchi came from books. Hiruhiko feels Chihiro has only surface knowledge about the "heroes." He further asks him about the Shinuchi, considering he witnessed it first hand at the Rakuzaichi auction.

Chihiro remembers his battle against Kyora Sazanami. Back then, when he witnessed the tip of Shinuchi's powers, he was overwhelmed with doubts. He wondered whether or not the powers the heroes wielded were really the powers to protect people. He felt the reason why his father never spoke much about the Shinuchi and the blade was kept under tight security was because its powers were terrifying.

However, when Kyora Sazanami wielded the Shinuchi, Chihiro felt the presence of someone inside him. He wondered whether it wasn't the blade but the Sword Master who was actually out of control. After recalling the events in Kagurabachi chapter 57, Chihiro asks Hiruhuko whether he saying that the Sword Master isn't a hero to be protected.

Suddenly, Hiruhuko drops a huge secret on Chihiro, revealing that that's what Samura thinks, which is why he made a pact with Yura three years ago. The Enten user, whose brain is all disarray with information, doesn't seem to catch Hiruhiko's sentence. He shouts saying that if the Shinuchi is released, the Hishaku will destroy the country.

To keep that from happening, he can't let any of the contracted sword bearers die. Hiruhiko completes the exact sentence for Chihiro and adds that things have already been set in motion. The Hishaku sorcerer tells Chihiro that Samura wants the contracted sword bearers dead.

The Enten user can't believe Hiruhiko's words. As he ponders about it, Hiruhiko tells him not to think too hard about it, as they just have to fight till death. Just then in Kagurabachi chapter 57, the Kumeyuri blade drops from Hiruhiko's butterfly-shaped origami.

He quickly grabs his severed hand with his mouth and throws it in Chihiro's direction to obscure his vision. Hiruhiko pounces on that opportunity to escape Chihiro and get the Kumeyuri blade. Since his hands are severed, Hiruhiko holds the blade with his mouth and chants Kumeyuri.

As he activates the blade, his own sorcery disappears and two Geisha figures are summoned from the Enchanted Blade. Kagurabachi chapter 57 ends shockingly, with Chihiro Rokuhira horrified about Yoji Uruha's fate. Interestingly, a bubble appears around Chihiro, implying Hakuri must be using his ability to bring him to the temple.

Kagurabachi chapter 57 review & conclusion

Kagurabachi chapter 57 saw one of the biggest twists of the series yet. It was revealed that Samura was the traitor, who made a pact with Yura, the Hishaku's leader three years back. He believed the contracted sword bearers and the Sword Master shouldn't live. That said, it's interesting how he never let his close ones (the Makizumi) and Uruha detect his animosity.

The chapter implied that Samura killed Uruha shortly after eliminating the Hishaku sorcerers. It has already been revealed in the series that to acquire an Enchanted Blade, a user must sacrifice their original sorcery powers. The final panel in the chapter saw Hiruhiko's origami sorcery fade away, leaving only a crumbled piece of paper.

Since he was able to imprint his name on the blade would mean Uruha's death. However, the manga has yet to confirm the ex-Kumeyuri user's death. Besides that, Kagurabachi chapter 57 revealed interesting facts about the Sword Master, like how he was the leader of the pack.

The chapter has sparked many questions about the Sword Master's motives, including whether he was truly a hero. However, given how the chapter ended on a big cliffhanger, the primary question should be about Uruha's fate and whether he would survive. It remains to be seen how Takeru Hokazono handles the narrative from hereon.
