Kaiju No. 8 chapter 108 began with Kafka being overwhelmed by No. 9’s new form, losing several limbs from its early attacks. Kafka compared it to fighting No. 9 and No. 2 at the same time, saying he was getting overwhelmed no matter what he did. Kafka landed another attack from his unique style, but it wasn’t effective enough to bring No. 9 down. Likewise, it was established that Kafka only loses the advantage as the fight continues for a long time.

The two then engaged in a slugfest after Kafka realized he was forced to use his new moves no matter what. Konomi Okonogi then pointed out how it wouldn't be long until Kafka had nothing left, but Soshiro Hoshina pointed out the bigger issue. It was revealed via a flashback that if Kafka stays in his Kaiju form for too long, he won’t be able to transform back into a human. Kafka seemingly knew this, but said he was not losing now no matter what.

Kafka then used a full-strength move on No. 9’s core, but it dodged and got around him. No. 9 then landed an attack that exposed Kafka’s core, grabbing and beginning to crush it while taunting him. No. 9 called checkmate, but Kafka said it wasn’t over yet, transforming back into a human partially as he did so. The issue ended with Mina Ashiro firing a major blast at No. 9, returning to the fight while berating Kafka for always being so reckless with himself.

With Mina having officially returned to the fight, Kaiju No. 8 chapter 109 is all but guaranteed to see the pair take on No. 9 and No. 2 together as best they can. While it’s unlikely they earn an immediate victory, the two should at least be able to swing the battle back into their favor with a two-pronged attack.

Likewise, No. 9 is likely to start getting concerned for time, recognizing that while Ichikawa’s arrival didn’t necessarily surprise him, his foot soldiers won’t last forever.
