Kaiju No. 8 chapter 113 began with No. 9’s core shattering and being destroyed. However, before dying, No. 9 told Kafka (calling him Kaiju No. 8) that they should have a chat. Kafka was then transported to a battlefield inside of No. 9’s mind or memories, littered with corpses. Nearby, Kafka noticed a strange mask on the ground, which he said he had seen before. However, he was then interrupted by the arrival of a child-like version of No. 9.

No. 9 commented on how he thought this was all a coincidence, but recognized now that the entire series of events was inevitable. No. 9 then asked if this place brought back memories, adding that it’s clear he isn’t deeply connected to “it,” presumably meaning the Kaiju within him. No. 9 then confirmed that Kafka won, saying it enjoyed itself and the fact that humanity always exceeded its expectations. However, Kafka told No. 9 to quit lying and stop hiding something.

Kafka then asked what it was that was trying to escape from him, as energy was seen overflowing from No. 9 in the form of monster faces. The Kaiju within Kafka then began reacting, as No. 9 said that since “No. 9’s core has been destroyed,” it can’t maintain equilibrium. This led into the reveal that No. 9 was actually the Meireki Era Mega Monster, a massive beast. In the present, Kafka was severely wounded by an attack made from No. 9’s chest where its core was.

What to expect from Kaiju No. 8 chapter 114 (speculative)

With it being clear that the series isn’t ending anytime soon, fans are now more primarily concerned with what Kafka’s status is following the attack from No. 9. The issue will likely see Mina Ashiro spring into action to help Kafka, at least saving his life, but likely not preventing further injury to him.

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 114 should also offer some clarity as to what the Meireki Era Mega Monster’s true form is, as there’s a chance Kafka saw the beast as it once was in chapter 113 rather than what it is now. While a more grotesque form is certainly possible, a more elegant one seems more likely considering what it would’ve learned about human society while “within” or masquerading as No. 9..
