Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115 was expected to continue the fight against the Meireki Era Mega Monster but not with Mina Ashiro and Kafka Hibino as the primary combatants. Officially released on Thursday, September 26, 2024, the issue delivered exactly what fans were expecting, seeing Soshiro Hoshina and Gen Narumi join the fight.

Unfortunately, Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115 provided no update on Kafka’s status other than his vital signs still being totally gone. Thankfully, Soshiro and Gen immediately order Mina to begin looking after Kafka and trying to bring him back. While Kafka will likewise be absent for a bit longer as a result, fans can at least look forward to an incredibly exciting fight involving Hoshina and Narumi in the meantime.

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115: An impossible escape

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115 picked up immediately where the last issue ended, seeing a ring of glyphs (which is the Meireki Era Mega Monster’s attack) lining Mina Ashiro’s face. Director General Keiji Itami ordered Mina to retreat, while it was confirmed that Kafka still showed no vital signs whatsoever.

No. 9, from within the Meireki Era Mega Monster’s consciousness, then began reminding Mina that no one has ever escaped, no matter the time or strength, not even him. As the Meireki Era Mga Monster’s eyes flooded the panel’s background, No. 9 called the Defense Force no exception.

However, Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115 saw No. 9 shocked by a resilient, determined, and fearless look in Mina’s eyes, questioning what it was. Mina then began speaking on how “he’s always been that way,” making up for her many shortcomings and clearing away the little things so she could move with ease.

A panel showing Soshiro Hoshina’s two swords holstered on his back made it clear that she was discussing him. Mina then explained that when she hits walls she can’t break through alone, he carves a path out for her. She calls him the strongest Vice Commander as a closeup of her eye reveals an attacking Hoshina reflected in it.

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115 then saw Hoshina use his Sixth Form technique Strate Strike to completely dissect the Meireki Era Mega Monster. Citizens and Defense Force leadership alike celebrated Hoshina’s arrival. However, they quickly warned him to look out, as the Meireki Era Mega Monster had regenerated and was now targeting Hoshina with the glyph rings.

Hoshina quickly evaded this with help from Mina’s covering fire, as he instructed Konomi Okonogi to begin phase two. She ordered an attack helicopter to move to a specific position and attack pattern and fire all the ammo they had. Hoshina then commented on how the Meireki Era Mega Monster was his and No. 10’s most fierce opponent yet, saying they should hit him with everything they’ve got.

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115: 2v1, round 2

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115 saw No. 10 call Hoshina a fool for suggesting they had any other choice, as weapons drops shattered the ground all around them. Hoshina grabbed two new blades before attacking the Meireki Era Mega Monster again, which seemingly phased Hoshina’s attack out of existence. This was confirmed by him saying that what Meireki used wasn’t a shield, but something else which he, unfortunately, didn’t clarify.

He was then shocked to see Meireki creating a giant explosive limb to attack with, which Hoshina said would kill him with a single blow. He then told Mina to focus on Kafka Hibino while he fought, to which she said he couldn’t handle Meireki on his own. He acknowledged this before asking her to let one more of them join the fight.

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115 then saw someone get upset with Hoshina for asking permission to enter the fight, revealed to be Gen Narumi as he complimented and announced himself. The issue ended with Narumi making fun of Hoshina and his “stupid little bowl-cut” while activating No. 1’s powers, preparing to enter the fray alongside Hoshina.

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115: In summation

Overall, chapter 115 serves as a memorable and exciting installment to the series, setting up an exciting conclusion to the Last Wave Arc. With Narumi and Hoshina entering the fray, fans can expect other powerhouses like Reno Ichikawa to make their way over eventually as well. Chapter 115’s setup of Mina being responsible for Kafka sets up a romantic confession for her, which will likely be paired with an introspective flashback on the Kaiju within Kafka.
