Kaiju No. 8 chapter 114 began with a flashback to a smaller and seemingly younger No. 9. It explains that it hid itself away from humans due to believing itself to be weak, living a quiet life until it encountered and killed a hunter, realizing how powerful it was. No. 9’s curiosity then took over, eventually leading it to the Meireki Era Mega Monster as if it were “being guided” there. Focus then returned to the present, where Reno Ichikawa and others celebrated due to the Mega Monsters not moving.

However, a shift back in focus to Kafka and Mina revealed that the former’s core had been destroyed, as No. 9 became “an entirely different monster.” Spurred on by the Kaiju within him, Kafka tried to counterattack. However, No. 9’s face then split open, revealing several eyes underneath, one of which blinked and severed Kafka’s arm resultantly. No. 9 then launched another similar attack on Kafka, all but bisecting his torso and sending him flying.

Kafka’s vital signs disappeared as Mina demanded a mag drop. However, Meireki then attacked her gun, splitting it in half with a single move. No. 9’s body was then shown, having grown eight arms total with the split going through its torso, revealing more eyes underneath and fingers which were seemingly prying the fissure open. The issue ended with an attack from the Meireki on Mina being prepared, as she remembered No. 9’s words about no one ever escaping it.

Kaiju No. 8 chapter 115 will likely begin with another flashback sequence, likely focusing on No. 9 once more and revealing what happened after it met Meireki. Most likely, it will be revealed that No. 9 was given a specific plan by Meireki, which eventually came to center around Mina Ashiro once the pair discovered her talents.

This will likely transition back into a focus on Mina and Kafka, where Meireki will all but launch its attack on Mina. It’s more likely than not that Gen Narumi will appear at the last minute to assist the pair, with Soshiro Hoshina being down for the count after his fight with No. 12.
