He was a massive asset to Konohagakure because his very existence was a threat to aggressors. Neighboring villages would have to think multiple times before they could even think of infiltrating Konoha. However, fans had an interesting discussion surrounding this character.

If he was a member of the Akatsuki, things would have been quite difficult for Naruto. He was the Nine-Tailed Beast Jinchuriki, and the organization attempted to retrieve Kurama. This is also why there were numerous attempts to catch him. With Kakashi on their side, the likelihood of covertly retrieving the Nine-Tailed Beast Jinchuriki would have been substantially higher. Kakashi’s combat abilities would have also given the organization the edge over numerous fights that they’ve had.

Kakashi was a pillar of strength that Konoha relied on during times of distress. He took on several members of the Akatsuki as the story progressed. Kakashi joining the Akatsuki would have tipped the scales in their favor, potentially allowing them to get their hands on Naruto and extract Kurama from him.
