Kashin Koji may be manipulating Boruto over Sarada's mission, but for good reason

Kashin Koji is beginning to have a bigger role in the world of Boruto than ever before. The Jiraiya clone has been behind some of the most incendiary events in the Narutoverse. He tried to kill Jigen in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, an action which causes ripple effects and leads to Nine Tails dying. He also relayed crucial information to the current Hokage in their fight against the Divine Tree Clones.

His status in the series has changed from Villain to antihero and to hero. A lot of fans are yet to be convinced of the side he represents, even though recent evidence points to him being a hero. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is currently in the Sunagakure Arc, and Kashin Koji is the brain behind every hero's movements, from Konoha sending a team to Suna and the intel being given to Konoha's team.

Fans are not yet convinced about him preventing Boruto from helping in Sarada's mission. Kashin Koji tells Boruto that he will lose his life, but knowing the former Kara member, this might just be another lie. He might want the young ninja to make that decision on his own or to stay in one place; the answer is never clear with Kashin Koji.

What is Kashin Koji's role in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex?

Kashin Koji's initial role in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is that of a villain. In his first full appearance, he kills Ao and then proceeds to attack the entire Team 7. He easily beats the entire Team 7 and sets Konohamaru on fire, intending to kill him.

He spends the next minutes in the series committing acts of villainy but acting with a lot of restraint. After Jigen's battle with Naruto and Sasuke, he attempts to kill Jigen. This leads to his identity being revealed as Jiraiya and for Jigen to reach the final stage of his Kama, where he becomes Isshiki Ototsuki. He loses this battle and is driven to the brink of death; at that point, he awakens Ten Directions. An ability that becomes useful later in the series.

Ten Directions allows Kashin Koji to see the future and see every possibility that can happen. He uses this ability to teach Boruto how to use the Flying Raijin Jutsu, a move invented by the Second Hokage and perfected by the Fourth Hokage. Due to Kashin Koji, Boruto takes the Flying Raijin Jutsu a step further and utilizes it in ways that Minato, the Fourth Hokage, didn't.

His actions are also crucial in Konoha's knowledge of the Divine Tree Clones. He even goes a step further and supplies intel to the current Hokage, Shikamaru. This information is currently being used in the Sunagakure arc as Team 7, along with Sand ninjas, are currently engaging with Matsuri and Ryu.

Kashin Koji's personality

Kashin Koji retains many similarities to the ninja. He is a clone of Jiraiya, and the only difference between him and the pervy sage is his air of mystery. Kashin Koji is hard to interpret, which is his strongest suit, enabling him to thrive in Kara for so long without Jigen deciphering his true intentions.

Like Jiraiya, he is attached to Konoha and does everything to protect the village, even if it means causing harm. He attacks the entire Team 7 without restraint and would have killed Konohamaru if not for Boruto's intervention.

His persuasive skills are also top-notch, and he uses them to convince Konoha to follow his words so easily. He even uses this skill to control a short-tempered and impulsive member of Kara, Delta, from taking action.

He also believes in the end justifying the means as he did morally reprehensible actions to fit into Kara. During his time in the organization, he collected children who were experimented on and later died. He also killed his comrade without thinking twice, and Kashin Koji believes he is doing this for the greater good.

Final thoughts

Fans have drawn similarities between Kashin Koji and Itachi, claiming the two characters had similar roles, which is true as both are content with being antiheroes. Itachi was okay with taking morally reprehensible actions in exchange for peace. Similarly, Koji is committed to protecting the Shinobi world, even if it means taking the lives of others.

Kashin Koji's Ten Directions ability is one of the most important in the series, with only the Senrigan coming close. While the Ten Directions can see so many possibilities, Kashin Koji refuses to tell Boruto of any of them to reduce the risk of other futures forming. This is similar to what Dr Strange did to Iron Man in Avengers Infinity War.
