Hunter X Hunter has a lot of popular characters, but Killua is definitely a fan-favorite, and many people would want him to have a prominent role in the story once again. Now that the Dark Continent is a major factor in the series, the individuals are on a totally different plane of existence when it comes to power.
There is a theory of the ways he could grow stronger to be able to compete with those characters. A YouTuber known as KitePlanet, who tends to make many Hunter X Hunter videos centered around the battle system Nen, has come up with a theory that Killua could expand his abilities and power thanks to the manipulation of dark matter.
That is a direct result of his Nen abilities and usage of lightning, which is something that audiences already got to see a bit of during the events of the Chimera Ant arc.

Explaining how dark matter manipulation could be the path for Killua's power-up in Hunter X Hunter
The theory begins by stating that dark matter is made out of photons and can only move at the speed of light, which is one of the different factors that led to the creation of the universe through the Big Bang. It also states that photons can be found in lightning, an element that Killua uses with his Nen abilities, as shown during the events of the Chimera Ant arc.
That being said, the young Zoldyck doesn't create lightning but can rather connect to sources that have them and absorb them, which plays a role in this discussion. However, once he gets a hold of lightning, he could potentially learn to manipulate dark matter, thus creating a tremendous range of abilities for him to use in combat.
Dark matter, as per scientists, is all that is not visible but still adheres to the laws of physics. This means that Killua could manipulate a lot of elements to create weapons, tools, gadgets, and other things. This could also mean that he could manipulate the context surrounding an opponent, which, on paper, could give him a monumental edge.
The future of Killua in the series
One of the biggest strengths of Hunter X Hunter as a series is that it can move the narrative from one character to another without much problem, although this leads to the likes of Gon and Killua not having a very prominent role. However, that is bound to change eventually since they are the two main characters of the series and the main focus for many people.
The manga currently has several plot points to address, with Kurapika serving as a de facto protagonist because Gon is absent from the overarching narrative. There is also the Succession War taking place, the Phantom Troupes being taken down by Hisoka, and the looming threat of the Dark Continent, which is bound to change a lot of people's perception of the series moving forward.
Final thoughts
There is no denying that Killua Zoldyck is not as strong as some of the main players of the current Hunter X Hunter arc, and the idea of him getting stronger through dark matter manipulation is quite interesting. However, this is mere fan speculation at the moment and nothing seems to suggest this is going to happen.
