Shota's confession leads to him reconciling with Sawako in Kimi ni Todoke season 3
The narrative for Kimi ni Todoke season 3 chiefly centered around Sawako and Kuronuma and Shota Kazehaya's light-hearted relationship and its complexities. Although they seem perfect for each other, the duo developed a blip in their relationship over insecurities and lack of communication.
The summer break was an idyllic moment for them, as they went on dates, introduced themselves to each other's parents, and carved lovely memories. Time-skip to the Okinawa trip, Sawako and Shota were close to sharing their first kiss before being accidentally interrupted by Ayane.
Since then, Sawako and Shota were no longer the same. The former was too shy to bring up the topic, while the boy started to create a distance around Sawako. At first, Sawako thought things would work out between them. However, she gradually realized the space they had made between them.
The invisible barrier prevented Sawako and Shota from showing their actual feelings. She wondered whether something about her was bothering Shota. Then one day, she mustered the courage to talk things through with him, but Shota's responses created self-doubt in Sawako.
Yet later, she realized that it was Shota who created that distance, not her. She questioned their relationship and wondered whether they had been living in a pretense. However, Sawako's doubts vanished on the night of Christmas Eve, when Shota kissed her and confessed his actual feelings.
Shota reaffirmed his relationship with Sawako and confessed to her that he didn't want to get carried away in their relationship. As such, he subconsciously created a barrier between them. He told Sawako how much she meant to him.
Since the first time they met, Sawako had been deep inside Shota's heart. Besides that, Shota told Sawako in Kimi ni Todoke season 3 that he was too selfish to share her with anyone. There were only a few people with whom he could open up, and for the rest, he subconsciously created a barrier.
However, Shota Kazehaya didn't want to keep that distance from Sawako anymore. He wanted to care everything about the girl and cherish her. Sawako was too emotional to respond to Shota's confession.
Yet, she learned how much the boy loved her. The final episode of Kimi ni Todoke season 3, titled Happy Moment, saw them reconcile over the emotional confession.
