Fans seem to be comparing the Boruto series to the Fairy Tail series after revisiting an interview that happened nearly seven years ago. One of the reasons why the Fairy Tail has a bad reputation among animanga fans is that the stakes were never really high.
None of the popular deuteragonists ever died in the Fairy Tail series, and the show constantly found a way to bring them back. This seems to be a cause of worry among fans of Masashi Kishimoto’s ongoing series.
They don’t want the same treatment to be given to this show as well. Now more than ever, the stakes appear to be quite high. Fans have revisited an old interview that Masashi Kishimoto attended because he hinted at the possibility of Naruto characters dying in the sequel series at some point when the stakes are high.

Boruto: How Masashi Kishimoto could avoid the
Fairy Tail treatment
As shown in the tweet, the author attended an interview with Jump that took place nearly seven years ago. Masashi Kishimoto was asked about certain things concerning the characters of the sequel series. One of the key statements concerning the topic at hand was about his opinions on the death of an important character.
He expressed his happiness with the fact that the sequel series isn’t “bound” to the original series. There are a few elements in the animanga series that have been derived from the original series. However, he stated that he would like the sequel series to get a certain degree of freedom while working on it.
Following this, he stated that he would be okay with the death of any important character from the Naruto series. By this statement, he intended to say that he didn’t want the sequel series to be guided and influenced completely by the original series. So far, no important Naruto character aside from Kurama has died in the manga series.
Now that the manga is inching closer to its conclusion, the stakes are only increasing with every chapter’s release. Furthermore, Masashi Kishimoto’s active role in the plot progression could result in the death of an important character from the original series. Sasuke has already been sealed by Hidari, and the complete depletion of his chakra could prove to be lethal. Masashi Kishimoto has a couple of options at this juncture of the story.
Fairy Tail failed to kill characters even in cases where the villain was a complete mismatch when compared to any of the deutaeragonists. This treatment killed any semblance of stakes that the series worked towards. One might fear that the sequel series might follow in Fairy Tail’s footsteps.
However, if Masashi Kishimoto decided to kill a deuteragonist at the right time, it could help the manga series in creating extremely high stakes, making the reading experience all the more entertaining.
