Despite being the deuteragonist of Boruto just like her father, Sarada Uchiha's role has been more like a supporting character due to her character mostly relying on the protagonist for help. However, this might backfire for the author, who could be willingly making her character like this for the future assistance of the protagonist.
Some fans might have forgotten, but the dream of the Uchiha child is to become the Hokage, but a bigger role in that would be to resolve the issues of the village, one of the biggest ones of which is the conflict between the protagonist and Kawaki. Kishimoto making the character of the Uchiha child come out like a minor character could rob her of her future ambitions.

Boruto: Exploring why Sarada's current character development might rob her of her future ambitions
Sarada Uchiha is the daughter of Sasuke Uchiha and one of the deuteragonists of the series. She was introduced alongside the protagonist, and both became a part of modern-day team 7 under their teacher Konohamaru. After the Momoshiki incident, the Uchiha child revealed her ambitions to become the Hokage.
However, despite her grand goals for the future, her character development could hardly pass that of a supporting character. In the Naruto Next Generation, the Uchiha child had the potential to become one of the strongest characters in the series due to her mastery of hand-to-hand combat and her Doujutsu, the Sharingan.
However, due to various situations, she was reduced to a helpless girl who always had to depend on the protagonist or her father. Even though the anime gave her a spotlight in various cases, the source material, the manga series, never gave her the spotlight she deserved.
The same happened in the Two Bliue Vortex series here, despite the series going through a long time skip, Sarada's potential as a fighter hadn't increased in the slightest. The sequel started with the arrival of Code, who thought of using the Uchiha child as a way to lure out the protagonist and was even about to accomplish it.
Later, after Jura and Hidari infiltrated the village, the latter went after the Uchiha child and expressed his desire to consume her. Sarada, despite having awakened Mangekyou Sharingan, couldn't do much against the antagonist. Fortunately, the protagonist arrived in time and was saved from potentially dying.
Masashi Kishimoto's writing of the character of the Uchiha child could backfire badly as this could rob her of her aim to become the Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. Leaving the duties as a leader, the Uchiha child could resolve so many issues before officially becoming the Hokage.
First, she would need to resolve the conflicts that are damaging the village, the biggest one of which is between Kawaki and the protagonist. Even though her potential as a fighter could be weaker than both of them, she would need to resolve it to achieve the title of the Hokage.
Moreover, she would also need to save her father, who was transformed into a chakra tree in the past, before his return becomes impossible. However. her current development as a supporting character in Boruto could hinder her future plans.
